ROME Mar 29, 2006 (AP) The man who faced the death penalty after converting from Islam to Christianity fled Afghanistan and arrived in Italy on Wednesday, Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi said.Italy offered the 41-year-old Abdul Rahman asylum after charges of apostasy were dropped against him by a court in Afghanistan. Rahman fled the country earlier in the day.
Many Afghans were furious at the decision, and on Wednesday members of parliament demanded that the government prevent him from leaving the country.
