BAGHDAD, Iraq - Across Iraq, Coalition and Iraqi forces continue to disrupt and diminish terrorist and anti-Iraqi forces, while the Iraqi government faces its new responsibilities.

According to an Agence France Press report, Iraqi Policemen thwarted an attempted suicide car-bomb attack on a station south of Baghdad Tuesday. The AFP reported the subsequent explosion wounded 11 policemen and a female bystander. Five of the wounded were reported to be in critical condition.

The wire service cited Iraqi Police sources in Haswa , Iraq as saying a minibus sped toward them while its passenger sprayed gunfire.

Police returned fire and the bus exploded, killing the two insurgents. The report said three mortars then fell on the police station without causing injury.

An examination of the bus revealed the driver's hands had been chained to the steering wheel.

Soldiers from the U.S. 101st Airborne Division detained six insurgents in a raid near Samarra Monday.

It is a mystery why the driver was chained to the vehicle borne IED. The driver may have been forced to charge. The terrorists may be running out of volunteers to engage in suicide bombings, and there have been rumors of this since months ago.

Actually the chaining, taping or tieing their hands to the steering wheel is really common. One of the things troops are trained to watch for. Also watch for clean, white clothes on the driver, vehicle looks overloaded (headlights pointing up) with only the driver because trunk loaded with explosives, etc. etc. This is S.O.P. with the terroists so not reaally an indicator of anything in terms of ability to recruit homicide bombers. Cars are also remotely detonated so driver doesn't even have a say when it goes.
