The issue is whether there will be guest worker-amnesty included in the any border enforcement bill, or whether the House will demand HR 4437 become the new law of the land. I support the latter.

Does HR 4437 address the 12 million illegal aliens currently in the US? If HR 4437 finally allows us to control the ongoing illegal immigration, I don't have a problem with an amnesty for those currently here, for the reasons mentioned in my previous post. Let's hope HR4437 passes, and delivers.

HR 4437 is a strict enforcement only bill that doesn't address any guest worker-amnesty type of provision. Exactly the type of proposal that is needed right now. What came out of the Senate the other day, was a committee only proposal for immigration reform. Frankly, a very liberal immigration proposal.

We tried amnesty back in 1986, and in 20/20 hindsight, it didn't work. It didn't work because people like Ted Kennedy gutted the employer sanctions short term, while subsequent administrations didn't enforce the sanctions and didn't properly fund the Border Patrol agency, in the long term. If Bush41, Clinton and Bush43 had enforced the employer sanctions and funded the PB properly, we wouldn't have the overwhelming problems we have with illegal immigration today.
