Republican pollster Jan van Lohuizen, in a memo written for RNC chairman Ken Mehlman, warns that if members of Congress try to drive a wedge between themselves and Pres. Bush, it'd be akin to adding weight to an anchor. GOpers are "W Brand Republicans" whether they like it or not. And van Louhizen, who has polled (often secretly) for the Bush White House under the RNC aegis for years, is worried about low turnout.
Time Magazine first reported on the memo this weekend, but the full text is below.

So you'd rather have cheap lettuce than secure borders?
You're ****** up.
Thanks for outing yourself as an appeasable.
Now even the newbies will understand that you can and have been bought off or scared off.
By your definition, I am proud to be unappeasable.
Actually, neither has occurred.
I don't have a my-way-or-the-highway solution for a problem that will, because of those who do, never be addressed.
As I said: LOSER.
You don't have a solution, but our suggested solutions are wrong. Boy, you're pathetic.
>>>"If the President and the GOP Congress somehow get their way and install a backdoor amnesty program under the guise of a guest worker program, the GOP will lose many conservative voters for both 2006 and 2008."
And, then increase the number of Democrats by 20 - 100 million (no one really knows the final number) at the same time! All border states will be solid Democrat. Good show Bush! /s/
No, I don't have a solution.
But your solution is not going to pass the Congress, so we will have another six-eight years of the status quo.
I just wanted to butt in here to encourage your continued debate on this issue. I appreciate the information and education you've been providing. Great posts, young man!
Yeah, doing the right thing is hard for the Senate.
We either are a nation or we aren't.
A nation has to have borders.
Enforce the borders. Stop the flow of illegals.
If we take it one step at a time, we can get it under control, but it has to start with sealing the border.
Is that so difficult?
Don't get me wrong. N. Korea bears close scrutiny and possibly intervention at some point, but at the time that we went into Iraq, I believe that it was exactly the right place at the right time.
Delaying that action would have only emboldened Saddam and allowed his nefarious programs to progress. I believe that he did have WMDs in some form and they were moved out of country while we 'negotiated'.
That is exactly the strategy we need to show 'em. We will have a TRUE conservative agenda then! Our problems will be solved and we will live for ever in peace and happiness.
Bwahhahahaha! Gasp. Bwahahaha!
BTW, if you are being satirical, good one. It's getting really hard to tell these days. ; ).
You know, I've been watching pretty closely the last few weeks. And engaged in some very pointed conversations with some people. I compare that to actual real life people I know who are fully credentialed conservatives.
In my mind, those questions have now officially been answered. And you are 100% correct. My biggest disappointment is watching some who do know better being caught up in the current.
From the Afghani Constitution:
Article Two Ch. 1, Art. 2
The religion of the state of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is the sacred religion of Islam.
Followers of other religions are free to exercise their faith and perform their religious rites within the limits of the provisions of law.
Article Twenty-two Ch. 2, Art. 1
Any kind of discrimination and privilege between the citizens of Afghanistan are prohibited.
The citizens of Afghanistan whether man or woman have equal rights and duties before the law
I'm in favor of deporting all 12 million, today. But I've been around long enough to know that will not happen.
My realistic preferences, just to be clear. 1) an impenetrable wall or other border system to prevent 99.9% of illegal crossings. 2) Deportation for ALL those who do not sign onto the guest worker program, with the added requirement they are NEVER able to return. 3) Limited time for guest workers (2-3 years) with mandatory return to home country before re-applying. 4) No accelerated path to citizenship. 5) Crack down on ALL companies who employ non-registered illegals. 6) Absolutely NO benefits to illegals from the feds or states.
This is not far from Bush's plan.
Do you know anything of elasticity? Supply and demand?
I thought not.
You are still here.
You can still criticize him.
You can still criticize the GOP.
Our first Ammendment rights will cease to exist when they come into power.
It wasn't the President that tried to shut down FR, you know.
Once again, to lay the blame on GWB any more than on ANY other congress or Prez for the last 40 years is unreasonable.
It was Bush who brought the subject to the forefront, not anyone else. Do I agree with his plan 100% - nope. Do I believe his plan is better than anything the demonrats are capable of coming up with - hell yes. Am I writing my congresscritters to back the House version- yep. Will the final bill be a combination of the house and senate bills- most likely.
And there is no reason to abandon the GOP, because the results would be far worse.
I'm not disgusted with the House GOP, other than for their addiction to spending.
I've been disgusted with the GOP Senate since day 1.
And in no way am I disgusted with GWB. He's right 75% of the time, and that's as much as I can expect from a President. And he happens to have balls of steel.
