RNC Memo Warns GOPers Not To Distance Themselves From Bush
The Hotline (National Journal) ^ | March 28, 2006

Posted on 03/28/2006 7:52:53 PM PST by Karl Rand

Republican pollster Jan van Lohuizen, in a memo written for RNC chairman Ken Mehlman, warns that if members of Congress try to drive a wedge between themselves and Pres. Bush, it'd be akin to adding weight to an anchor. GOpers are "W Brand Republicans" whether they like it or not. And van Louhizen, who has polled (often secretly) for the Bush White House under the RNC aegis for years, is worried about low turnout.

Time Magazine first reported on the memo this weekend, but the full text is below.

And yet, for some reason they have not been able to do that. Hmmmmm.

"And how many conservative postitions has Bush sold out?"

Campaign Finance Reform, spending like a drunk, Medicare Drug Benefit, immigration for starters.

Bush and the RNC can go straight to hell.

is very apt for these faux conservatives

Faux conservatives? We're not the one pretending that a sellout of long-held conservative positions is a wonderful thing.

To finght the Dems/ Libs, et al we MUST STOP the in-fighting and get behind "Our Leader".

Umm... one little problem with your thinking. "Our Leader" is one of those "Dems/Libs" in RINO clothing.

"...In his second term, President Bush has become a master of the reverse-wedge issue — hot-button issues that divide his political base and get it to feast on itself with charges of sexism, xenophobia and racism. The first was Harriet Miers; then there was the Dubai ports deal; and now comes his guest-worker proposal, making for a trifecta of political self-immolation."

Some "Freepers" here, those who keep harping about tossing Republicans out of office, remind me of that old Foster Brooks routine. He'd be drunk, stumbling in front of his wife with a gun aimed at his own head.

"Don't laugh!" he'd say. "You're next!"

and the Whiners would throw it all away because President Bush and the Congress don't do ONLY what they what when they want it.

Sorry, but Bush has been told for five plus years that amnesty was the grail. And he has failed to heed that advice.

But like the spinner you are, you blame us instead of Bush.

How did that seat cushion smell, by the way?

*I* am a Republican. I don't appreciate being told that, nor do I approve of any strategy that gives any power to the Democrat traitors, socialists, and cultural marxists, such as Kennedy, pelosi, etc.

ACtually, many of the Paleocons, Bucahananites and Malkkkin supporters seem like they want to help the Dems win "to teach a lesson". Morons.

All the money in the world won't buy your re-election if a large portion of the base is not happy. Look what an angry base did to Pat Dewine. He was a shoe-in
untill his daddy angered the base.
He came in a pitiful 4th. Money alone won't do it.

Sadly, many on this site only get animated when gay people are allowed to walk the streets or they can't have 17 ar-15s.

You said immigration was the last straw. So I assumed you were comfortable voting for Bush despite illegal immigration never being mentioned but in passing in either campaign.

It is BECAUSE of GWB that the house (good) and senate (bad) are moving on the issue. he brought it up and he told the congress to do it. Now we conservatives need to stick together and push hard for the best possible version.

its funny you would mention the SCOTUS - had the base not rose up to stop Miers, Alito would not have been seated.

this guest worker program will fundamentally change the american society - its not like some budget bill or an argument over highway spending. if we can't have a voice on something like this, what can we talk about?

I am happy with the House. I wrote letters to both my GOP Senators today. They had better do the right thing. The state of GA is taking care of business, and they had better follow suit.
