Republican pollster Jan van Lohuizen, in a memo written for RNC chairman Ken Mehlman, warns that if members of Congress try to drive a wedge between themselves and Pres. Bush, it'd be akin to adding weight to an anchor. GOpers are "W Brand Republicans" whether they like it or not. And van Louhizen, who has polled (often secretly) for the Bush White House under the RNC aegis for years, is worried about low turnout.
Time Magazine first reported on the memo this weekend, but the full text is below.

The Founders, if they were here, would disagree.
It is that kind of thinking that has led to our current $65 billion dollar per MONTH trade deficits.
Now, if we lived in a perfect world, where trade between nations was reciprocal, perhaps you'd have a point.
But we don't live in your perceived utopia, sorry.
And, since we're talking about immigration here, the desire of our elites to make borders into a thing of the past so that they can make labor as fungible as capital is CRAZY.
Double Bump!!
Something to look forward to -- that, and buying cheap plasma TVs on eBay.
Well, it's not quite that easy either. When our local produce is no longer competitive with imports, our growers are simply out of business. The wholesalers aren't going to pay the prices. So it's just one more industry lost for America. The answer might be technology but that takes time too. There are no simple answers to this problem.
I wish the peoplel we put in power felt like i do . Any student of history knows how lethal this situation will be for our future as a country. Citizenship is becomng meaningless now. why bother? All the benifits but none of the responsibilities. No boarders anymore and the watering down of the national language ,masses who feel entitled... read about ancient Rome folks !!!!
You really think 4 years of effort is going to completely reverse hundreds of years of thinking, hundreds of years of a bigoted philosophy .....of course it isn't. Not completely (Hell go to the South and I'll show you some of our own continuous black-eyes here in the States).
But for you to suggest or even infer that an incredible amount of progress hasn't been made in Afghanistan is utterly foolish and intellectually empty. Bordering on pathetic.
No use wasting any more time with this on you. After a suggestion such as that. We have brave men and women working their as$es off 24/7 and achieving incredible progress in the process...and for you to take a silly swipe that success and that commitment....ends our need for this conversation.
The only sensible position is to expect an attack at any time as long as the enemy continues to exist. Any other position betrays a complete misunderstanding of the threat.
Which is exactly what this CIC GWB is doing. Running around saying the sky is falling from threats that aren't there serves no purpose however. We only have a limited amount of resources and that is the reality most don't like to deal with. Nor will most put their as$ on the line regarding any of this.
Democrats (moderate, traditional) worry about borders. DEMONcr@ps (hard left and the liberals) gain from illegal immigration. Permanent slave class and readily available source of votes.
All noise is just that, noise. Please let any potential voter know that if they want to end illegal immigration, J. Sensenbrenner and the 200 plus members who voted for his bill are Republicans.
I don't know. I suspect the GOP is going to be losing big time to the dems very soon.

...or the rise of a Populist party.
Where are you going to get the numbers? If every single Republican suddenly voted Populist, then what?
....But it gives one an immense feeling of power to have a labor force that can constantly be intimidated with the threat of deportation. The lettuce tastes sooo much better.
Where are you going to get the numbers? If every single Republican suddenly voted Populist, then what?
First off, I don't believe a Populist party would be a particularly good thing. It would likely involve a charismatic demagogue offering easy solutions to complex problems.
However, there are enough disenchanted democrats who would go that route along with angry republicans.
you can kiss your freedoms and your principals good bye
That's what the GOP and the press is doing, proposing solutions. All the DEMs can do is oppose it and they sure as heck didn't come up with any ideas.
