LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Record bosses are erasing any evidence of The Beatles penchant for smoking from the cover of an album re-release.
EMI are shipping a new version of LP 'Capitol Albums Volume 2' on April 3, but there will be a distinctive difference on the cover.
While John, Paul and Ringo were seen puffing away on the evil weed on the original 1964 version, they've magically kicked the habit on the re-release. And that's not the only thing to have vanished into thin air, two of Ringo's fingers, that were holding a cigarette, have also gone on the missing list.
The band were all big smokers, with John still smoking when he was shot dead in 1980.
Paul is believed to have quit in the 80s, but his wife Heather Mills recently revealed he was still smoking marijuana until former wife Linda McCartney died in 1998.
She said "I would not get married to him if he was taking drugs."

I know that is Robert Johnson. DO you have the cleaned up pict too?
One of the reasons I'm building a good DVD collection of classic films is that you never know when the PC Police will alter them.
This is a bit off topic, but a couple of years ago I burned some CDs with (legal) Internet MP3 downloads of unknown but great talents and took them on a trip to Europe to give away copies to friends and new friends there. I put on the cover the photo of Oswald's Band you see above. Reaction? None. It turned out that this original photo is iconic within the borders of this country and totally meaningless (surprisingly) outside. Next time, I'll put a pic of my dog taking a crap on the cover.
And while we're on the subject of annoying changes to my beloved Star Wars films, this one is a small, but annoying, change, too:
Luke Skywalker cuts himself free of being held by the ice wampa, cuts its arm off, and runs out of the cave. There's an added sound effect of him closing down his lightsaber, even though it's perfectly clear to see that it's still ignited.
Why make that change? It's stupid, it's pointless.
But it's not as stupid as Greedo shooting first. [shudder]
This was one of my most favorite albums.
It was HerB Albert and The TJ Brass.
great music
I must need to hang with a more educated group because most of the morons right here in the U.S.A. that I showed the same photo to had absolutely no reaction unless it was to look at me like I was some kind of dumb*ss.
Now, here's a challenge... |
I've heard that the National Archives are busy airbrushing all of the ciggies out of FDR's pics.
Two of the 4 are dead. Neither one of them from smoking related diseases. When are the smoking nazi's going to get real? I don't care what they think, the product is legal and all of the Beatles were old enough to make the choice whether or not to use tobacco.
Wow, that's the first time I've ever seen that picture. Absolutely amazing.
"The band were all big smokers, with John still smoking when he was shot dead in 1980."
So, now we know the truth, John would still be alive today if he hadn't smoked!
Sorry sister, George died from a cancer caused by his chain smoking.
Jack Ruby & The Wailers!-- What a Hoot!
