The "first order of business” for the federal government in dealing with illegal immigration is to secure the nation’s borders, Arnold Schwarzenegger declares in an Op-Ed piece.
And the California governor says that granting amnesty to illegals is "anarchy.”
"We learned on 9/11 that not all those who cross our borders want to share in the American dream,” Schwarzenegger writes in the Los Angeles Times.
"A few want to replace it with a nightmare. If we don't know who is coming over our borders, we won't know what they might do. And in a post-Sept. 11 world, that is a risk we cannot take. Congress must strengthen our borders.”
Criminalizing immigrants for coming into the U.S. – as some have called for – is not an answer, according to the governor.
"Instead, I urge Congress to get tough on those illegal immigrants who are a danger to society. If an illegal immigrant commits a serious crime, he must leave the country — one strike and you're out. No excuses, no delays.”
Schwarzenegger also said the U.S. should pass "a common-sense temporary worker program so that every person in our nation is documented. We can embrace the immigrant without endorsing illegal immigration.
"Granting citizenship to people who are here illegally is not just amnesty … it's anarchy. We are a country of immigrants, yes. But we are also a nation of laws.”
Finally, he said, "We should assimilate immigrants into the mainstream. We want immigrants to not just live in America but to live as Americans.”

Almost every letter is negative towards Mccain!
There is a big white vote that they take for granted...and rightfully so. Betcha you couldn't get 10% of the FReepers that voted Bush last time to vote 3rd party. So there is our continual sewer pols in the cartel being reelected so they can sell us out.

Everybody is juggling, in some fashion or another, how to handle the "amnesty" hot potato. So pay a $1,000 fine, learn English, and you will be forgiven your past sins? Or is the alien intruder, once caught, marched back to the border and released? Do we bring sanctions so harsh against the employers of alien intruders, they are driven out of business?
Or just call it something besides "amnesty"? And of course, just let what is already happening, continue to proceed, which is to avert our eyes and do only a minimum to control borders, as more and more Mexicans and other nationalities stream into our country unchecked.
It is within memory, that it was extremely difficult to enter this country and remain as a resident alien who could work at legal and gainful employment, and even more difficult to gain citizenship. The limits apparently were relaxed only quite recently, and there seems to be little motivation to re-institute those previous restrictions.
"Learn English" just struck a nerve. Taught by who, NEA members maybe? Tested by who? (The same ones who say the answer to how many states are there? - is Fifty-one including P.R.) I smell more pork! I figure that we will have to foot the bill for this.
Why can't we make it less attractive for illegals to come and to stay?
Why can't we-
1. Close the borders.
2. Issue federal ID cards to the illegals.
3. Tax the sh*t out of them to pay for the social services they suck up.
4. NO RIGHT TO VOTE- EVER.
5. Commit a felony - banished to Mexico for life.
6. First generation spawn of illegals - NOT CITIZENS.
7. LEARN ENGLISH or be sent back to Mexico.
8. Oath of allegiance to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

This is so depressing!! Do you guys realize that the more immigrants that come into this Country the closer to socialism/communism we get? (wich is what the Democrats want of course) ALOT of the protesters I saw had Che Guevara shirts on! How ironic is that? They flee Countries in Central and South America where Che Guevara's ideology runs wild to come to this Capitalist Country that is full of jobs and prosperity that was created because of Capitalism and they want to turn it into Cuba?? The Marxist...ooops I mean Democrats will be demanding that illegals have a right to vote next!
I dont have much hope for this Country's future. :( We are headed for a BIG civil war within the next 100 years and we are going to be fighting against Communist. People thought Communism was finally dead 15 years ago but reality is Communism is a bigger threat to our Country today than it probably ever was! I think all of Central and South America will be Communist very soon.
Im 25 years old and probably want have any kids because I can see the direction the World is going in and dont want them to be in any Soviet Union type gulags and all the suffering that I see coming. :(

Seeing the American flag being flown upside down and UNDER that rag makes me want to do something I may regret later.
