So that would seem to conflict just a tad with the notion of stars lightyears away revolving around the Earth every 24 hours.

Everything else is on a transparent sphere just outside the orbit of the sun.

A little problem in that various space probes have gone further than that and not reported smacking into any crystal spheres...
