WASHINGTON -- An executive with a Dubai-owned company withdrew his nomination as head of the agency that oversees ports in a letter to President Bush on Monday. ...

Sanborn, a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and a retired Naval officer, said in his letter that the day he was nominated was the proudest of his life.

Former presidential candidate John Kerry, D-Mass., and Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., put holds on Sanborn's nomination, saying they needed to know more about his role in the process that allowed DP World to purchase the port operations in the first place.

"I hope the withdrawal of this nomination means the administration is finally waking up to the homeland security problems with our ports, not just saving face after the merciful end of the Dubai debacle," said Kerry.

Interesting "fallout," and sad for Mr. Sanborn. What an emotional roller-coaster he must be on, but this too shall pass.

Curious how even Fox cannot get it right. Has little to NOTHING to do with Port Operations. Curious how all during the Port Deal Hysteria the Critics were screaming non stop about how "We are turning our ports over to Arabs". NOW they are here claiming the Martime Administration oversees our Ports. So which is it critics? But that right, it has NEVER been about the facts just happened to be the current thing the Whine All The Time Choir could squeal at Bush about.

HERE is what the Martime Administration does.

http://www.marad.dot.gov/

Mission:

To strengthen the U.S. maritime transportation system - including infrastructure, industry and labor - to meet the economic and security needs of the Nation. MARAD programs promote the development and maintenance of an adequate, well-balanced United States merchant marine, sufficient to carry the Nation’s domestic waterborne commerce and a substantial portion of its waterborne foreign commerce, and capable of service as a naval and military auxiliary in time of war or national emergency. MARAD also seeks to ensure that the United States maintains adequate shipbuilding and repair services, efficient ports, effective intermodal water and land transportation systems, and reserve shipping capacity for use in time of national emergency.

Goals:

Commercial Mobility:

To Reduce congestion on the nation’s inland waterway, marine and landside infrastructure National Security:

Assure an intermodal sealift capacity to support vital national security interests Environment:

Formalize environmental considerations in our operations and in our partnerships with other agencies and private stakeholders to streamline processes that lead to environmentally friendly transportation improvements. Organizational Excellence:

Focus our energies on implementation of the President's Agenda and on continual improvement in our efforts to manage for results. Vision:

A maritime system that serves America with American ships and American labor

Kerry thinks that a retired naval officer would be a risk to our ports?

Isn't Kerry a retired Naval Officer?
