**That title is very misleading Only 3 Republicans on the Committee voted with the Dems*

And...it is not going to get out of the Republican Congress. Specter might have killed the whole idea of immigration reform by going extreme. The screeching hyperventilation of "conservatives" this morning is as premature as is the ecstatic cheering from the foreigners.

As much as everyone here hates Specter, he did offer a compromise bill that was quite bit less loathsome than Kennedy-McCain. His compromise got nowhere in committee. K-McC may not even reach the floor if it can't get GOP support. I think it is entirely possible that Frist will gut K-McC as it is and replace it with his enforcement bill. The Judiciary action yesterday was a mere charade.
