The majority of Iraqis overall view the recent parliamentary elections as valid, are optimistic that their country is going in the right direction and feel that the overthrow of Saddam Hussein has been worth the costs.
Sunnis, on the other hand...
The poll was conducted for WorldPublicOpinion.org by the Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA) at the University of Maryland and was fielded by KA Research Limited...
Among the Shia and Kurds optimism is even higher.
Seventy-six percent of Kurds and 84% of Shia say they think the country is headed in the right direction.
the ethnic divisions are very sharp.
Ninety-eight percent of Shia and 91% of Kurds say the hardships were worth it, while 83% of Sunnis say they were not.

What a surprise! People who were pampered and in power feel bad that they're not anymore, and the oppressed are thrilled that they've been liberated.
Oookk. How much did this poll cost ?
The clincher in this article is:
Iraqis overall have a positive view of the toppling of Saddam Hussein. Asked, Thinking about any hardships you might have suffered since the US-Britain invasion, do you personally think that ousting Saddam Hussein was worth it or not? 77% say it was worth it, while 22% say it was not.
Gallup asked the same question in April 2004. At that time, 61% said that it was worth it and 28% said that it was not.
This is a devastating repudiation of the completely bogus coverage we are receiving from American and European news organizatons. 77 percent says it was worth it and that number has increased dramatically from less than a year ago.
At some point, this pathological bubble over Iraq will burst.
You wouldn't know this from the way they are "just reporting the news straight from the Iraqi hotel wet bar". It would also be nice if the Kurds who are Sunnis would be identified as such instead of just those Sunnis in the "Sunni Triangle". The Press should be ashamed the way they elevate a handful of Sader's cronies or a bunch of Bathists as if they are representative of the majority of Iraqis.
since the lame stream media is always interested in public opinion polls I betcha this is front page news tomorrow!!
77 percent nationwide "yes" is very strong.
Among the Kurds and Shia in the 90 percent plus.
Eventually, even the old media can not hide these numbers for ever.
The Sunni take the Koran literally and consider the Shia to be heretics. The Shia, on the other hand, are more interpretive of the Koran and see the Sunni as fanatics. There is very little meeting of the minds between them. Hoo-sain is a Sunni and the "Sunni triangle", the area NW of Baghdad is a hotbed of insurgence. Tikrit is Hoo-sain's birthplace so there is a lot of opposition there.
The old media has been reporting from the hotel bar for so long, they know little else.
Maybe they get a taxi ride with a Sunni driver to get the local view.../s
I think we know they don't really care what the local Iraqis feel or think. They are reporting one thing, how they feel about it and President George W Bush.
It is amazing that the old media have given up on accuracy in their reporting.
Their reports are never the search for the truth.
Rather, how can we spin this story to hurt Bush.
If it is a negative story, then it will be Breaking News for weeks.
If it is positive and they are forced, they might run it once on page 53.
Bets on how long it takes for this story to show up in the New York Times?
The president should be ashamed of the PR part of this war, he is losing badly....
It actually would behoove (sp?) the President to come to FR and get a true sense of how the grass roots (true) conservatives are thinking, and maybe... just maybe align himself a little better with us. Becasue the way he is acting now, IMO, is he don't care about 06 elections or 08 elections, because he's not in them. So he spending all his "political capital" and spending everyone else's too...
zzzzzzzz
So show us how it's done, Hero.
Well, uh I'm not the press secretary or a top political advisor, but even I can tell his public relations are $hity to say the least. I love W as much as the next Freeper, but crap, even I know that when you see the MSM up there bashing you're every move, you gotta get up there and fight back, and he ain't doin it.. and I never claimed to be the know it all.... I just notice that he's getting the heck beat out of him on the public ring and he needs to refute some of these outrageous allegations.
so "zzzzz" yourself... I don't see you "throwing up" any real conversation....
