$9,000,000,000,000

The federal debt is actually a little under $5 trillion.
Almost half and growing of the current $8.3T is the Social Security "trust fund", which is illegitimate government debt to itself.

I wish I could throttle the MSM over the $9T lie. But everybody believes it.
It is like when I was trying to convince people that the 3rd Millennium began with 2001, not 2000.
I could only do it AFTER the 2000 celebration.
You can bet the MSM will "discover" the lower figure as soon as a Democrat is elected President.

Actually, I prefer to fear ALL outstanding debt, private and public, which amounts to something like $35 trillion dollars. That's obviously unsustainable, particularly in a country which is gutting its middle class.

VOTE REPUBLICAN. Only because it's better than the alternative.

Don't vote--it only encourages them.

no VOTE REPUBLICAN because each vote is a nail in the coffin of the democrat party.

When the democrat party is dead THEN you can stay home.

What do I do if I want both parties to die? After all, since I can't tell which is worse...

One of the things being lost in this thread is that Reagan was supposed to start a revolution...not finish it. He obviously didn't do enough. But he was supposed to be the beginning. Unquestionably he advanced the ball; others needed to pick up after him.

That is what never happened.

The only articulate arguments I see here are: Reagan wasn't really a conservative, so don't get mad at GWB. This doesn't make sense to me. T

he other argument is that the war on terror required GWB to spend too much. That doesn't make sense, either, since the war on terror didn't require the prescription drugs bill and open borders.

Moreover, FDR won a war. Does that make him a conservative?

At the VERY least, vote third party as a protest. Not necessarily LP--there are others. But don't let them think you've quit, because if you do, they'll keep burning your tax dollars and laughing at you. If you stop voting altogether, the fat cats in DC will continue to ignore you, just as if you continue to vote in the general election for politicians who do not wholly agree with your politics, the RINOs you elect will continue to ignore you.

Better to vote in primaries for the conservative you want, and if you don't get a conservative, vote in the general election for the candidate closest to your principles. RINOs call it "guaranteed losing," but it sure feels better than "winning" their way. And just as you can't dig yourself out of a hole, or keep spending money in hopes you'll get rich, you can't get better politicians by voting for worse ones.

I have stated previously that I am done voting for candidates who are selling out our national sovereignty. DONE. So the GOP can choose to have my vote in 2008...or not. Either way, I'll be voting.

How do I go about protesting democracy itself?

Heck, that's easy!

Emigrate to Cuba!

No, that's a problem: I'm dead against socialism. Indeed, you're right! To say I'm against "democracy" suggests that I'm for an alternative form of government. I guess I have to say I'm against anyone pushing anyone else around, period. So how do I go about expressing that conviction? I have a strong feeling that it doesn't involve voting a certain way...

re :I will reply that companies cannot find enough talented people to do high knowledge jobs.

You forgot to add for mcWages.

I spend a lot of money retraining and re skilling myself to make me a attractive proposition, but I have been replaced as has others by outsourced workers who while not as skilled are a lot cheaper.

My present company are replacing natural wastage with outsourced contractors.

On the whole they are pleasant to work with but are not as skilled as those being replaced.

We have a great training program for the said outsourced workers. The same graining program that cost me a lot of money.

"How do I go about protesting democracy itself?"

If you're that torn up about it, you could move to a constitutional republic. The Swiss are xenophobes but will take you if you have a little cash. I doubt the Swiss will let you vote when you get there, however.

And of course the other opportunity you might take advantage of is the Compact of Free Association in the Pacific Micronesian nations. I'm unsure just how the 'immigration' laws work with American Samoa, Chuuk, and the CNMI (I don't know if you can vote once you get there), but I'd bet they're fairly open to competent grown-ups. There are other Freepers in American Samoa, at the very least, and I'd bet more in CNMI. If you're any good at agriculture, you could make a killing there, assuming you have enough cash to get a little property, too.

Of course, assuming you're not up for outright moving and taking your assets with you, you could simply buy a boat and offshore your assets, which would impact you tax-wise a tad but give you mobility enough to avoid future tumult from the mob if you bank your dough and CYA appropriately.
