By The Associated Press

Most people in the United States think illegal immigration is a serious problem. A solid majority oppose making it easier for illegal immigrants to become legal workers or citizens.

Some findings in recent polling:

_ Some 59 percent say they oppose allowing illegal immigrants to apply for legal, temporary-worker status, an NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll found.

_ More than six in 10, 62 percent, say they oppose making it easier for illegal immigrants to become citizens, according to a Quinnipiac University poll. Nine in 10 in that poll say they consider immigration to be a serious problem _ with 57 percent of those polled saying very serious.

_ Three-fourths say the United States is not doing enough along its borders to keep illegal immigrants out, a Time Magazine poll found.

The NBC-WSJ poll was taken in March, Quinnipiac in February and Time in January. The NBC-WSJ and Time polls surveyed about 1,000 adults and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The Quinnipiac poll of 1,892 registered voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

The L.A. protests have gotten WAY out of control...it's spilled out onto U.S. Highway 101. It's time to shut this protest down for their safety.

There will be some major blow back because of this. I think they've overplayed the "poor us" card. If they knew what was good for them Saturday would have been the end of it. I think the tide has turned. Big time.

I am more than just concerned this is a major crisis for our Country! It's terrifying. Sen Kyl said "make no mistake that in a few years if we allow illegal aliens to stay indefinitely according to kennedy's bill when a recession comes and we have all of them UNEMPLOYED and our constituents come to us and ask how could you allow this to happen what can we tell them".

That's interesting. Wonder what FReeper Pukin Dog has to say now - PD has been trying to convince us all morning that the FReeper dislike of these illegal entry criminals/amnesty is a fringe opinion.

Good job, PD /mega sarc. You have proved to be wrong on all three topics that you have posted your vanities on - Harriet Miers, DPW, and now criminal aliens. Keep it up and you'll lose what little credibility you have left.....LOL.

By nature, morons don't have the capacity to comprehend anything so I doubt it. I continue to throw their mailings away without even opening them. They don't call anymore since I've started screaming, "Until the president gets on the right side of the illegal immigration issue, you get nothing! Good-bye!"

You said, "Maybe the moron strategists at the RNC will FINALLY comprehend this is a winning issue for them in 2006."

Exactly!!! All we've heard lately is that "we better be careful here. Nothing here, move along."

Are you listening, R strategerists????

Why can't they understand: Secure the borders, then we'll talk about the rest of it. Are you listening, Bill Crystal??

A KATU.COM (Portland, OR) poll has tried to play games with America's view that ALL Illegal immigrants should be thrown out of this country. They did this by dividing up the poll questions on immigration.

However, when you take a close look at the questions and answers AND separate the Pro-Illegal-Immigration poll results from the Anti-Illegal-Immigration poll results what you get are the true poll results - that being that 80% of Americans in this poll are AGAINST Illegal immigration.

Here's the results from that poll shown above:

(1) All illegal immigrants should be deported 58%
(2) Illegal immigrants fulfill an important role in our society 14%
(3) Illegal immigrants should be given the chance to get citizenship 5%
(4) We need tougher laws on proof of citizenship requirements 8%
(5) Lax immigration laws are a national security threat 14%

All illegals out. Felony for hiring them, mandatory jail time.

Well, we have identified two leading members of the "Free trade at any cost/open border lobby/pro-criminal" crowd. All we need to do now is sit and wait for the anchor babies and their enablers to show up next (believe it or not, there are quite a few of these openly pro-criminal entry types on FR).

Disgusting!! Illegals have a disdain or the law; their disdain cannot be rewarded by more pampering as some would like to have it.

W must be trying to be the first President to poll in the single digits. He's beyond clueless.

I would beg to differ with your premise, though I don't live in the area.

In fact, I don't live in CA, thank God but I do want all Americans to witness live and in color, what illegals are demanding from them (not from the U.S. Government - WE ARE THE U.S.GOVERNMENT, dammit.

They ought to publish the Zogby polls about Mexican attitudes towards America and Americans, or do their own.

I hope all of our senators become aware of this polling data, 'cause I'm pretty sure it will surprise a lot of them.

The one third of them that are up for re-election had better be aware of the fact that they can be "fired" for taking the easy path.

Nine in 10 in that poll say they consider immigration to be a serious problem _ with 57 percent of those polled saying very serious.

Haven't seen the complete breakouts yet, but from what I've read, this cuts across party lines and a majority of the Democrats (not including the 'Flaming Liberals') are with us on this one.

a bunch of 'high school kids' marching down a LA freeway, blocking traffic

High school students, especially in L.A. welcome any opportunity to get out of classes. Probably less than one fourth of them really knew exactly what they were protesting.
