Most people in the United States think illegal immigration is a serious problem. A solid majority oppose making it easier for illegal immigrants to become legal workers or citizens. Some findings in recent polling:
Some 59 percent say they oppose allowing illegal immigrants to apply for legal, temporary-worker status, an NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll found.
More than six in 10, 62 percent, say they oppose making it easier for illegal immigrants to become citizens, according to a Quinnipiac University poll. Nine in 10 in that poll say they consider immigration to be a serious problem with 57 percent of those polled saying very serious.
Three-fourths say the United States is not doing enough along its borders to keep illegal immigrants out, a Time Magazine poll found.

I'm so disgusted with this nonsense. It amazes me that the pol's don't seem interested in the citizens opinions. They just keep rolling on with their agenda.
I see checkpoints and M.Law in America's near future.
That SUV might get a stiff workout pretty soon.
"Don't worry, I am sure someone will be along shortly to call you a racist and a Bush hater."
I don't think so. The Bushbotic and rapidly reflexive defense of Bush on the DPW deal doesn't seem to exist. Maybe it's the Rushbots - this morning Rush was thinking out loud how he should feel about the illegal issue, so no fervor from the dittoheads.
Down here in Texas they are more concerned with you having a drink in a bar than ILLEGALS invading the state with their drugs, crime, diseases, health problems, and on and on and on.
You've hit my tagline on the head!
I'm shocked, too. I thought a FReeper had forgotten to indicate that it was his own title.
But notice a later post on the same subject more in tune with PC, Polls: Public Concerned About Immigration .
Phony immigration is giving the legal residents a bad name...
"The Republicans in the House are trying to do something about it. HR 4437 is a fantastic bill (except for eliminating the anchor baby status). It's the weenies in the Senate that couldn't care less about us citizens. I am hoping the House members stick to their guns and throw out any guest worker bill, since it looks like the Senators will pass one, whether we want it or not".
This is like a bill that passes the senate 51-49. Certain senators know it would kill their re-election chances to vote for a certain bill, so the senate makes sure they can pass the bill without certain senators voting for it. It passes anyway and the frightened senators get to vote against it, making themselves look good.
What difference does it make if the senate or the house passes a bill? They both have to vote on it, don't they? One can't pass a bill without the other.
It will pass and we are screwed and we won't even get kissed.
This from Oregon, don't know if it's from the Liberal bastions of the state, or otherwise...
Good stuff from Rush today. He finally devoted almost an entire show to the illegal immigration issue. I always love when he says about it because he is exactly right. But...I get the feeling he's been pandering to this administration by keeping quiet. I hope this is the start of the change.
Quotes from El Rushbo:
"It's as if thieves thought they could form a union to lobby for fewer cops. Sadly, many in Congress will actually consider their demands."
"...the protests have been reported as an extraordinary reaction to events in American politics. But they are not extraordinary at all. They are just the typical way that governments are influenced in many Latin American nations. What the protests truly represent is the colonization of America by the Latin style of politics."
"Here are 500,000 people: "We are illegal, and proud! We're illegal and proud to be here, and screw your law, and screw your Congress! Screw this piece of legislation,"
"Yeah, that's where they screwed up. If they're trying to do that, backbone of America, they should have been flying American flags, but they weren't. There were far more Mexican flags than American flags. I'm sure the left liked that. They hate the American flag, too."
"and I'll tell you who's being tainted by this are the legal immigrants. Those are the ones that are hard working. Those are the ones hard working and law-abiding. How can you say that an illegal immigrant, by definition, is law-abiding? "
"'Undocumented aliens' is the politically correct term. Why, we can't hurt these people's feelings! Well, let's call people like Jesse James and Willie Sutton 'undocumented bank withdrawers' -- just so we don't hurt anybody's feelings. The 9/11 hijackers? 'Undocumented pilots.'"
Soon, if something isn't done about this problem, OUR country will be called;
"The United States of Mexico"
I prefer the more technically precise term enemy invaders.
"We have Nicaragua, soon we will have El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Mexico. One day, tomorrow or five years or fifteen years from now, we're going to take 5 to 10 million Mexicans and they are going into Dallas, into El Paso, into Houston, into New Mexico, into San Diego, and each one will have embedded in his mind the idea of killing ten Americans."
--Thomas Borge, Nicaragua Interior Minister, as quoted in the Washington Times, March 27, 1985
They want to pull down my Old Glory, they got one hell of a fight on their hands. I'll shoot'em and when I'm out of shells I'll throw rocks until they get close enough to bite'em.
With a minimum of 15 million illegal aliens in our country, these figures are the tip of the iceberg. Average bilingual education is $1,200.00 per illegal alien student. Get this! We educate 1.1 million illegal alien children each year. Do the math! Ready for another anvil dropped on your toe fact? You paid $27 billion to provide forms, ballots, interpreters and brochures for languages other than English in 2003.
An estimated one-third to one-half illegal aliens work off the books. It costs $200 million to provide for emergency health care for illegal aliens in the Border States annually. California with over three million illegals paid $79 million, BUT four of their major LA hospitals bankrupted and shut their doors in 2004. Texas with 1.5 million illegal aliens paid $74 million in hospital care.
