AP) LOS ANGELES The marches against proposed immigration legislation are spreading in Los Angeles.
Some 1,500 L.A. students who have walked out of class are gathered outside Los Angeles City Hall.
L.A. school district officials said some 1,000 students from Los Angeles High School on the 4600 block of Olympic Avenue have walked out and are reportedly heading toward Hollywood High School on the 1500 block of North Highland Avenue.
Hundreds of students have already left Huntington Park High School, some scaling fences that school officials locked to avoid a walkout.
L.A. school district spokeswoman Monica Carazo said students have walked out from at least eight schools ranging from the San Fernando Valley to the wealthy coastal enclave of Pacific Palisades.
Carazo said teachers and administrators are accompanying the students to look after their safety.
The L.A. Police Department said the force is on tactical alert as a precaution because of the protests. But no arrests or major confrontations have been reported.

I wonder how many really support the cause and how many just wanted a "get out of school" excuse?

Speaking of a backlash, they are going to get one from the taxpaying citizens. Great point. I don't think the demonstrators quite grasp the American psyche. We're not Frenchie -- people "demanding" things in the street doesn't earn capitulation. It usually earns retaliation. And to the extent a lot of people were undecided on this issue, my guess is that the protests are more likely to swing them in the direction of controlling immigration.

Where is the public demonstration against Mexico for not taking care of their LEGAL citizens? Because we are law-abiding?
Because we can work the phones and the letters and we can vote?

Are you kidding? Mayor Reconquista is leading this.
"Mayor MEChA:"
Read about how a pro-communist, ultra radical "MEChista" named Tony Villar cut his hair, changed his name, put on a tie, and became the mayor of America's second largest city.

Deport first, then let them apply for work cards/citizenship if that is what they want. That's what the vast majority of Americans want.
Will the illegals protest? Who cares? Society does not ask the criminal element what their punishment should be in violating the law.
As for these students - whatever. The teachers are protected by their union, the schools won't return the money they were paid today to teach them, and a suspension means nothing when most of these students don't care.

They have the socialist teacher's unions to protect them. Of course they do... they're behind it:
More illegal aliens = more students enrolled
More students enrolled = more money coming from Sacramento
More money coming from Sacrament0 = More teacher jobs
More teacher jobs = More union dues being paid
More union dues being paid = Bigger Union Coffers
Bigger Union Coffers = More money to spend on Socialist Candidates

FYI - According to one of the scanner boards, Long Beach Pd is working a walkout by Jordan HS on 453.350. Police is in full force in riot gear and swat on scene. At least 5 k-9 are also on patrol.
Shame none of those history teachers who are walking out with their students will bother mentioning what happened last time students walked out in protest - California voters passed the anti-illegal immigration proposition.

They are seeing to the students safety i.e., protecting them from the evil police who may need to crack down on this.

You are talking about this like it's a bad thing.
More businesses will flee the lawless La Republica Popular de California and move to Utah. More job opportunities for me! And our legal Polynesian immigrants.

Exactly. If I were in school, I'd be "protesting" the bill as many days as I could. In fact, I was in high school when the local schools were finally integrated. One week during the second year we had some tensions and a few fights. You should have seen the kids checking out for their "safety."
