This seems like a pretty weak article. The author never says why moving people to Ft. Bliss will cause unique problems (as opposed to moving them to some other post). And he doesn't say whether moving people out of some posts (like Ft. Hood) will reduce gang problems there.

He paints a scary image of gang members who join the military for training, but this maybe be more of an imaginary problem than a real one -- he doesn't give a single example of a soldier who mis-used military training to help a gang.

This is a very curious article. Why would the FBI, which generally won't even comment on any future possibility ('Speculation, we have no comment.' is about as much as they will say.) is being positively chatty about the potential eruption of gang wars due to the U S Army shuffling units into Bliss? I cannot help but believe there is some sort of hidden agenda being played out here. perhaps it is inly a CYA action by the SAIC at El Paso or a ploy to use this event to try and get more agents assigned to what must be one of the most overworked and shorthanded FBI offices.

Ms. Simmons said some gangs actually direct members to join the military to learn how to handle weapons. "The intelligence that we have thus far indicates that they may try to recruit young people who have clean records and encourage them to keep their record clean to get into the military.
BS. A stealth gang banger? BS. And all that just to learn how to handle a weapon? BS.

Boo-freakin'-hoo. The same thing was said about my Italian forebearers - that they weren't of the same white, Anglo-Saxon Protestant stock as native Americans, that we were losing our country, etc.

Just proof positive that, behind many rants against "illegal aliens" is racism against Hispanics.
