I remember back in the old days it was $20 per oz.

Then there was a big crack-down because of the increase in cocaine smuggling and the price went way up.

Smugglers could make so much money on cocaine that it had to be worth their while to continue to smuggle weed.

With all that money floating around, participation in smuggling by law enforcement was inevitable.

Without the U.S. war a.k.a. (price support at tax payer expense) against cannabis - what would be the market price per ounce? - And would it be profitable to ship from central Mexico + pay bribes to border agents?(winston2)

I remember back in the old days it was $20 per oz.

Well - what I was alluding - is that without the U.S. anti-cannabis enforcement - and marijuana raised at an industrial scale - the retail price per ounce could easily be as low as $5 to $10 dollars.
Currently, the retail price for average Mexican cannabis is about $100. Thanks to the U.S. war against cannabis users, the smugglers are making a tidy profit. Also, the more successful the fed.s are in thwarting the cannabis smuggling, the more likely those people who now bring marijuana to the U.S. will be to consider meth or cocaine as less risk and greater profit.

About the border agents letting contraband over the border - I would be upset if the agents were letting in dangerous people and or weapons that might be intended to harm U.S. citizens.
