"If the Special City so desires, it can make life hell for a charity that only wants to help people in need. If the Special City likes to, it can conduct another inquisition to make sure that charities strictly adhere to the supervisors' doctrine."

A very good point.analogy made as it ends. Thanks for posting.

Levada seems to have a flexible approach to morality and Church law.
Bene XVI had that job and did very little about sexual abuse of children by priests and Levada is probably a desciple of Bene XVI.

Certainly the supes have a right to hector the church, even if they miss the irony that they, too, have meddled in the doings of Vatican traditions.

Actually, I don't think the government has a right to hector the Church about her beliefs. there is a little thing called the First Amendment which provides for no religious establishment and for the free exercise of religion. I really wish the Catholic hierarchy would be more vociferous in defending the rights of the Church when the government presumes to tell her what to believe.

Liberals say they care about the children. But special interest group demands, like that of the gay lobby's agenda to force devout people to acknowlege the legitimacy of their lifestyle, trumps compassion for children. San Francisco's Supervisors have decided the former takes precedence over the latter because feelings count for more than doing good.
