My solution is to enforce pre-existing laws, which REPUBLICAN administrations, and Republican Congresses have willfully disregarded because they conflict with their desire to have an endless supply of cheap labor.
There is also the issue of the "Hispanic vote": a thoroughly cynical notion which says that most Americans of Hispanic descent favor more lenient enforcement of current laws regarding the border with Mexico, as if Hispanics are either that dumb or that tribalistic.
