The campaign of Mel Martinez was uninspired, but even its worst days were nothing like this.
Martinez also didn't already have a bad public image that he needed to break, wasn't outfundraised 8-1, and wasn't running against an incumbent. He also had a much more inspiring personal story and didn't pull stupid stunts like this.
The situations were totally different, and Martinez ran a much better campaign.
