Police chief, mayor win anti-gun honors
One day before the Saturday morning shooting, Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske was honored by Washington CeaseFire, a gun-safety, advocacy organization for efforts to end gun violence in Washington state.
Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels also was thanked by the group for his work.
Kerlikowske was given the Delores Jones Person of the Year award for his work to toughen gun safety laws, according to CeaseFire.
"It is a sad irony, that in less than 24 hours after receiving an award for his work to end gun violence, Chief Kerlikowske is on the scene of one of Seattle's deadliest shootings ever," said Ralph Fasceteli, president of Washington CeaseFire.
As opposed to...what exactly?

B. Take-this-job-and-shove-it style.
C. Zombie style
D. I've-been-up-for-3-days style.

Glad to see the Seattle P-I quoting blogs as their news sources....
LOL!! I'm sure my son thinks I'm quite capable of a group nag all by myself. : )
Have seen a lot of quotes about some minors being at this house.... Nah, drugs would never be a factor...isnt MJ legal in Seattle?
------
Police did not know if drugs or alcohol were a factor, but Nollette said several of the occupants had come from another party and continued partying until the time of the shooting.
Kerlikowske said there was alcohol and marijuana at the party, but he didn't say whether that contributed to shooting.
"We have absolutely no idea what the motive was," he said.
Police had the killer's black Dodge pickup towed from the scene. Inside, they found a rifle and multiple ammunition clips capable of holding 30 rounds each, what Kerlikowske called "banana clips."
A rave (sometimes referred to as a rave party) is an all-night dance event where DJs and other performers play electronic dance music and rave music. The slang expression rave was originally used by people of Caribbean descent in London during the 1960s to describe a party. In the late 1980s, the term began to be used to describe the subculture that grew out of the acid house movement that began in Chicago and New York and flourished in the United Kingdom club scene.
The availability of drugsparticularly ecstasyhas caused raves to be targeted and criticized by law enforcement officials and parents' groups.
Apparently, some of the victims had attended an all-ages "Better Off Dead" DJ dance at the Capitol Hill Arts Center the night before.

Heh heh....yes, I was being sarcastic. I used to live in Seattle.
Should have increased the wattage of his sun lamp.
It's all Bush's fault.
Not the best combination.
Sorry, stop spreading garbage. Cornish is AT LEAST 20 blocks away.
Spreading garbage? If I made a geographical error, just correct it. What kind of comment was that?
A "comment" that put the TRUTH out to worried parents. You should be ashamed.
Cornish College is NOWHERE near this shooting.
You need to relax. All the parents I worried on this thread on FR please, raise your hand. I didn't think so.
You don't even know where your own daughter's collage is.
Yes I do. I just had it framed and it is on the wall in her old bedroom. That is not being flippant. It is a collage of probably 75 or so photos of her growing up that she put together for a school project. It looks great.
In the year 2000, when she was there, Cornish was described as being in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle. At least that's what I read and was told by school officials when we visited the campus. But what do I know, you're the genius here.
I don't know why you got so excited about this, but you are free to do so. I want to hear from any parent who got exited and worried about my first post on this thread. If we don't hear from any, will you go away? If we do, I'll apologize if I made them worry.
