It gets better (or worse) than that. The whole thrust of this rally seems to be that popular culture has a pernicious effect on people, making them mindless, shallow, self-indulgent automatons, divorced from their community and their spiritual selves...

...which is EXACTLY the same rhetoric you'd hear from your average "cultural critics" in academic or hipster circles. But because (gasp) CHRISTIANS are saying it, the sentiments must be symptoms of incipient, queer-bashing fascism.

I think the young lady who made the statement to the effect of, "I came here to get away from people like you," pretty much sums up the SF zeitgeist. The city is under a siege mentality powered by thousands of adolescents of all ages, who've never outgrown their conflicts with Evil Suburban Daddy, and who instinctively react against anything they identify with authority or tradition, no matter how ridiculous, hypocritical or deranged it makes them look to the rest of the world.

San Francisco gave us Charles Manson (before he moved south to LA), Jim Jones, and the Church of Satan. Also radical (gun toting leftist) politics.

A lot of lost souls looking for some NEW truth by rejecting what has worked for centuries. They leave a lot of dead people in their wake.
