Government took a light hand when it first introduced the income tax. It took a light hand when it first started limiting smoking. As long as McCain-Feingold (aka Soupy Sales, Jr.) is the law of the land--thanks to politbureau members like these two senators and the majority of wimpy members of congress who voted for the unconstitutional act, and a wimpy president who signed it, and a majority of the supreme court who found it legitimate--it's just a matter of time before political websites like this one will be shut down prior to elections.

I give it a couple of election cycles (4-6 years). The influence of the internet in allowing people to speak their mind in a forum where they can be heard everywhere, not just their local newspaper's Op-Ed page, it's not been truly felt yet.

I don't like Howard Dean, but I give him credit for using the internet in such a way that he went outside the normal media and normal party apparatus to get noticed by people, and I think you will see a lot more candidates use those methods. Not just candidates, but third parties.

That is what worries the leadership of both parties, and that is why I think when something major happens, the fit will hit the shan, so to speak.

I think the internet will factor heavily in the next Presidential election - I think it's the best bet we have on putting forth a Conservative candidate for the GOP, rather than relying on getting non-Conservative candidates who are only candidates because of who they know or how much money they can raise.

Just listen for party leaders (both Dems and GOP) to talk about how the internet is being used to slander their candidates, or how it's being used to influence elections. We've heard it in the past, and I think we'll hear it much more in the future.
