Sierra Club Endorses Phil Angelides for Governor

SACRAMENTO, CA -- The Sierra Club, the largest environmental organization in California with approximately 200,000 members, today announced its endorsement of State Treasurer Phil Angelides' campaign for Governor. The Sierra Club is a non-profit, member-supported, public interest organization that promotes conservation of the natural environment.

“I am honored to receive the Sierra Club’s endorsement,” said Angelides. “As a private citizen and as Treasurer, I have put environmental protection at the center of my work. As Governor, I will fight every day to protect California’s coastline, work hard to protect our forests and improve the quality of the air we breathe and the water we drink. Protecting our environment will be at the top of my list of priorities.”

“As Governor, Phil Angelides will continue the Sierra Club tradition of protecting the coast, our parks and public health from pollution,” said former Sierra Club Southern California Regional Representative Bob Hattoy. “Phil Angelides will ensure we preserve California’s precious natural resources for generations to come.”

The Sierra Club joins Vote the Coast and more than 70 prominent environmental leaders supporting Angelides' campaign including Carlyle Hall and Robert Garcia of the Center for Law in the Public Interest, Susan Jordan of California Coastal Protection Network, Mary Nichols of UCLA's Institute of the Environment, Gary Patton of Land Watch Monterey County, former State Senator Byron Sher, former Planning and Conservation League executive director Gerald Meral, conservationist Sam Schuchat, Global Green founder Diane Meyer Simon, and environmental advocates Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ted Danson, Ed Begley Jr. and Laurie David.

In recent weeks, Phil Angelides has introduced his “Clean California” plan to reduce California's gasoline and diesel use by 25 percent in ten years, and his “Coast Guard” plan to protect the California coastline.

"As Governor, Phil Angelides will continue the Sierra Club tradition "

Is THIS what Californians want?

No cars, no industry, no people, just "pristine" coast line.

Angelides (CA Dem candidate for governor) proposes plan to reduce fuel use

Vowing to be "pro-business and pro-environment," Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Phil Angelides unveiled a five-point "Clean California" plan Thursday that seeks to reduce the state's gasoline and diesel usage by 25 percent over 10 years by changing the types of cars Californians drive and the way their communities grow. If elected governor, the state treasurer vowed to introduce legislation to mandate all new vehicles sold in the state be flexible fuel cars, capable of running on any mix of gasoline and bio-fuels, like ethanol.

He said he would also require major oil companies to supply bio-fuels at filling stations to match the number of flexible fuel vehicles on the road.

Angelides said he would require state and local governments to purchase vehicles that use alternative fuels, or to buy efficient vehicles, like hybrids, when replacing or expanding their fleet.

Angelides Unveils Coast Guard Plan To Protect Coast, End Schwarzenegger Policy Of Neglect

“As Governor, I will work with Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Congresswoman Lois Capps to permanently ban offshore oil drilling off the California coast,” Angelides added.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger claims to support our coast, but his words just don't match his actions,” said Vote the Coast Board Member Ozzie Silna. “We need a Governor who will truly stand up for our coast and aggressively fight to ban offshore oil drilling once and for all.”

Phil Angelides has introduced his “Clean California” plan to reduce California's gasoline and diesel use by 25 percent in ten years,

Is he planning to deport all the illegals? Otherwise, well, whatever. My state is a political circus. If one didn't have a sense of humor, one might go nutter.

Phil Angelides is a moron. I don't see how he can reduce energy use without crippling the economy. When you have more people, more energy is used. DUH Must be the new Sacramento math.

"I don't see how he can reduce energy use without crippling the economy. "

What makes you think that crippling the economy is not his real goal? What do you think the real goal of the Sierra Club is?

Central planning, rationing and lifestyle management. In a word, socialism. We've seen it before.

He is going to do it, or so he thinks, by making all new cars use ethanol. Despoil, and use energy in (apparently a lot more energy than is produced), the Midwest, and it is off California's books. Get it?

There are hundreds of billions of barrels off oil off California's coast. Too bad we can't drill for 'em.

That would be on California's books. Can't have that. It is also not at all clear that ethanol mitigates the global warming usual suspects. Al Gore should not be pleased. Ethanol used to be a subsidy sop to Midwestern corn farmers. Now the grenns have discovered it as a hammer to annoy and harrass, and it has become a rural farm to elitest urban tree hugging industrial/political complex, all the while using more energy rather than less, and accelerating soil erosion. Iowa has lost half its top soil in the last hundred years. Time is running out! Cheers.

As Governor, I will fight every day to protect California’s coastline, work hard to protect our forests and improve the quality of the air we breathe...

As Govenor he will make sure even fewer can afford a house in CA. He will make sure prices continue to rise and the cost of living in the state continues to drown its citizens in a tidal wave of costs.

It's just a matter of time before the wife and I kiss this , what could be a great state, goodbye.

The median price of a home in San Luis Obispo County - that's a coastal county - is $604,000. That's Angelides' idea of "affordable housing." ROFL. The price will go even higher with all the environmental regulations he wants to impose. To him, it doesn't occur that life is full of trade-offs. But if he doesn't keep the coast pristine, the enviro wackos will demand his head. Welcome to Coolyfornia - where even the nuttiest ideas gain respectability.

It shows that when a Republican drifts left, its all for naught. Arnold tried to outbid Angelides for the enviro vote. As it it turned out, it won him neither their hearts nor more importantly, their votes.

Losing the base at the same time. But never fear, it's our fault if a Dem is elected next time.
