Thousands in Phoenix at immigration rally
AP ^ | Mar 24 2006

Thousands of immigrant rights supporters filled a major Phoenix thoroughfare Friday morning as they marched toward the office of U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl in a rally call for a more humane reform of immigration laws.

"They're here for the American Dream," said Malissa Greer, 29, who joined the crowd estimate by police to be at least 10,000 strong. "God created all of us. He's not a God of the United States, he's a God of the world."

On Thursday, more than 10,000 people filled the streets of Milwaukee in what was billed as "A Day Without Latinos" to protest efforts in Congress to target undocumented workers.

Hundreds of Los Angeles students walked out of their schools Friday morning to call attention to immigration issues.

In Georgia, activists said tens of thousands of workers didn't show up at their jobs Friday after calls for a work stoppage to protest a bill passed by the Georgia House on Thursday.

"And your buddy Clinton did what?"

Its not about what the devil does its about when good men do nothing and allow evil to prosper.

Is this always the comeback for Bushbots? How the dems would be worse? So Im going over a cliff I guess it would be better to drive the car at 30 mph vs 100mph.

Wake up and see that automatic voting for the GOP is no different than blacks voting for the dems. If we dont hold our vote nothing will change.

Thousands march for immigration reform

8,000-10,000 people are marching along 24th Street from McDowell to Camelback to bring attention to immigration reform.

The Border Action Network organized the march, which started at St. Agnes Church and ended in front of Senator Jon Kyl's office, in the Biltmore area. The group is protesting a House bill they say discriminates against illegal immigrants.

The bill makes it a felony to cross into the U.S. illegally and calls for the construction of a fence along the U.S./Mexico border.

There is a similar march going on in Tucson.

No, but it will get people motivated after they see their country quickly turning to crap. People were very motivated to get Bush in office in 2000 because we were tired of Clinton lies. Every single statistician said that based on the economy and other factors Bush was not going to win. It was against the odds.

Let me ask you when is enough, enough? These political parties know that incremental ism is how they make change. The GOP is not going to come out and say "we made a deal to get rid of the borders" no- but after there is enough critical mass in the country and you are humiliated for your viewpoint to speak out - then they will come out and say it.

Its happening right now. Why dont you think they seal the border? Its not because we cant - Bush is allowing this to happen on purpose.

Yes the rats are worse I agree with you - but tell me how do you compare bad to worse? Refer to my driving over the cliff analogy

Even the poll on CNN.com right now has 57% in favor of the bill making illegals felons. I think some folks have a rude awakening coming.

No doubt? Where was the Border Patrol, INS, ICE, Homeland Security and the Patty Wagon's?

Had them all in one place at one time. Easy bust and deportation. They call it a protest, when it is acutally and illegal action. Disrutption of traffic, commerece, etc.

Send them packing, use the RICO and take everything they own to sell at auction and let them pay their own way home.

If this is a sign of things to come nothing is. We have a very slim chance to get control of this before it gets worse. Im betting that we wont.

The problem with Republicans is that we are fractured and not very savvy politically.

When President GW Bush proposed an immigration reform bill, he was roundly criticized and browbeaten by many conservatives. The Democrats simply watched the show.

Instead of learning the value of compromise, getting a little of what you want at a time, many conservatives wanted everything or nothing. They refused to support the President's proposal as a good starting point; then they could have lobbied Congress to move the bill closer to a conservative ideal.

Instead we let the momentum pass. Americans don't feel so strongly today about curbing immigration [legal and illegal] as they did a couple of years ago. The memory of 9/11 is fading, we are moving on with our lives.

Now the immigration reform is being written by McCain and Kennedy. Nothing good can come out of this.

And if the Democrats get hold of the House or the Senate in November, they will probably make it a hate crime to refer to undocumented workers as illegal aliens.

"A Day Without Latinos"

I know....we could really stir things up if we did "A Day without U.S. Citizens"...

The Tucson City Council yesterday proposed a Cesar Chavez holiday.

We have lost our identity - get ready for the hate crimes perpatrated by hispanics because of thier emboldened identity and support by the dems and GOP.

Its going to get alot worse.

It just pisses off folk.

Not enough, apparently. Our children and grandchildren are going to have to fight because we didn't. Here's a great quote from a former President:

”We have room but for one flag... We have room but for one language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty, and that is the loyality to the American people.” - Theodore Roosevelt

That's the depressing part.

It's hard to get 1,000 conservatives for any rally; 10,000 would be a dream.
