"We are very conservative in our beliefs, and take the Bible literally. We believe that we should follow the new Testament example of Christianity without adding to or deleting from the Word."

What a bunch of hooey. You make the Bible say whatever you want it to. See her picture that was posted? See that short haircut? How does that square with this verse?

1 Corinthians 11:14-16, "Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God."

It doesn't. You guys are kidding yourselves.

Dan, that was written to a church in a city full of idol worship and prostitution. Prostitutes wore their hair short. Paul was just saying not to go around looking like a prostitute.

If he were writing today, he'd probably say something about bare midriffs and short skirts.

Then he went on to write "If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God." In other words, don't argue about it.

So quit trying to be contentious.

Look at the context and the era in which the words were written and relax. Bible means what it says, and its principles have applied for millenia. If you'll quit arguing and start listening to it, you'll learn to love its wisdom and the good it brings to your life.
