I know what you're saying, but I would rather have the company in charge not be owned the Red Chinese or the Russians or the muslims. Not that the the chicoms might put a bomb in the container but they might allow someone else to do it.
I would much rather have a US or Brit company run it. If they can't afford to run it, help them. It's that important.
Trust our long term allies that have the same general outlook on life as we do. I don't care how great a friend Dubai is or Saudi Arabia, I don't trust them. I don't have to tell them that, but I'm not going to give them some of the most crucial jobs in the world. They can make nails for us or cardboard boxes. They don't have a long track record nor do they think like we do. They are still partially stuck a millenium back.
And China is not a friend at all. They are a trading partner who has screwed us over with their monetary dealings after we give them most favored trade designation. They would love to have us owing them trillions of dollars. Their leaders are crazy enough to endanger their own trade if they could arrange a nuke container in NYC.
Yes, this is all a bit paranoid, but at least let's be a bit more careful. It's almost as if we are saying, "OK, who would be the least likely group to run this or that operation? Great, let's hire them!" The chickens in the coop don't hire the fox to guard them. Why should we?
