At first, I thought, ok, it's just a little old law, won't affect me. Then, prescription drugs. And Republicans are supposed to want smaller government? And now, they're coming after the only free and unencumbered, unregulated freedom left? The internet is our wild west. LEAVE IT ALONE! Can't we as citizens have ONE, just ONE measly thing in our lives that isn't regulated? And people laugh at me when I tell them we live in a fascist society. I used to think, let's work within the system, use the republican party to advance conservatism. Until we elect representatives at our state level who are conservative, we get the government we voted for. So, as much as you want to blame bush, (and I agree, he had a veto pen), the root cause is us at the state level, electing these people who aspire to the legislative, executive or judicial branches of government. States are kind of like the minor leagues. It's extremely frustrating right now. And, it's only going to get worse if we don't stop it. /rant

ABSOLUTELY TRUE! ABSOLUTELY TRUE! ABSOLUTELY 100% TRUE! ABSOLUTELY 100% TRUE!
. . .
SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS AND EVERY EMAIL AND BLOG LIST POSSIBLE. Shove it in their faces, in their ears and anywhere else it might remotely do any good! But, Jim, seriously, isn't that the reason why we should fight for all we are worth here AND consider a few offshore backups as well as USA backups???

"It was REPUBLICAN John McCain, with the help of his leftist Democrat allies, who pushed CFR through Congress. It was REPUBLICANs in the REPUBLICAN-controlled House and Senate who passed the atrocity. It was REPUBLICANs in the REPUBLICAN-controlled Senate leadership who held up the bill for four years, but finally let it be voted on. It was 41 REPUBLICANS in the House of Representatives who voted for it and 10 REPUBLICANS in the Senate who voted for it.... It was a REPUBLICAN President who not only refused to veto the unconstitutional travesty, but who signed it into law on March 27th, 2002. Further, it was REPUBLICAN appointed Supreme Court Justices who sided with the liberal activists on the court to uphold all or part of this anti-free speech law.
Not all Republicans are to blame for this atrocity, but you can't come close to pretending that Republican leadership and control of Congress is any sort of effective hedge against this kind of treason against the Constitution. Recent history, in fact the history of this specific law, proves otherwise."
Spiff, that was an awesome truth-post regarding CFR.
Worth reminding everyone who really is selling us down the river. (OUR OWN.)
I wonder which Freepers will try and refute the facts of the matter?

This is frightening, that they have the nerve to do this. I saved the contact list a few posts above yours.

By the way, I agree. Bush should not get a pass. For every letter sent to a Congressman, Bush should get two or three.
Someone has to take charge of this mess and get it straightened out. Bush should be using the bully pulpit to fight against the McCainiacs and for our freedoms!
We want to keep the Internet free! We want a return to the first amendment as the standard for free speech!
Repeal McCain-Feingold and ALL such unconstitutional campaign laws that abridge our rights to free speech!!
Shutter the FEC, not the INTERNET!!
The people are not corrupt, the crooked politicians are!!
Turn the dogs loose on the perpetrators, not the people!!

This is about as funny as the time my mom told me she had cancer as a joke.No. It's about as funny as when Andy Kaufman told everyone had had cancer, and nobody believed him; they wrote it off as just another of his practical jokes. Several expected he might attend his own funeral; they just couldn't buy into the fact that the cancer had killed him.
In the same way, CFR threatens to kill this website, and all others in the category; the good, the bad, and the ugly. And, in the same way, this is no joke. If it actually happens, FR will not magically pop back up on the 'net one day with a big, "Surprise!!" email from JR. It'll be gone along with YOUR Constitutional rights, and the "American Experiment" will conclude in failure.
Yes, it really IS that bad.

af, what you said is very true, there's no denying that we are in a very dire evolving situation in this country.
It's even more dire because the things I mentioned are happening under a Republican President with a Republican Congress.
But, here comes the but...but, we ain't dead yet.In my mind, when I see the US become a mirror image of what the Soviet Union was when it was at it's zenith, then, America will be truly dead.
From the federal government on down to many local governments, things are being done and technologies and procedures are being developed, that the Soviets could have only dreamed about.
What would have taken dozens of KGB personnel to do can be done at the touch of a button. Nobody cares - the Soviet Union is a distant memory for most, and without that stark contrast, and with the advent of much more subtle technology, people lose site of the big picture fast.
When America's veterans, such a Jim Robinson and millions of others are thrown into jail for speaking out against the ever growing tyranny of a handful of elitist socialist at the top of the food chain in our country, America will be truly dead.
Why is why I and many others rail against the government anytime they do anything that brings us one step closer to suchh censoring or restrictions. When the government tried to force Google to turn over all of its users searches for a certain period of time, I was mad as hell - ostensibily the government said it was to protect children and see what people are looking for. The reality is that then places like Chicago will want to look at that data, and will want IPs to see if people in Chicago are looking at things that the city leaders are against, i.e. certain items involving the Second Amendment.
If they don't see us railing against more and more control on our lives, it's a signal to them to just keep on taking, see how far they can push us up against the wall before we start fighting back.
Well said, and unfortunately you and I are in the minority (even on FR, more and more things that would not have been tolerated under Clinton are being tolerated under Bush).

He does have a veto pen, although, it must be dried up. I like Bush, for the most part. He got us through 9-11, and that's something noble.

And another by the way, President Bush OWES his office to the citizens manning the Internet. And the NEXT president of the United States will owe HIS office to the citizens of the Internet!! As will many of the new congressmen and senators coming on board after the coming elections. And Senators Hillary Clinton and John McCain will thank us for their early retirements.
Don't let them forget it!!
To: Jim Robinson
Here's a new poll question:
Do you think John McCain should run for President on the Democratic ticket?
He's been a wolf in sheeps clothing for several years IMHO!
To: potlatch
Yes it is scary, and I'm sure it would be challenged, by no less then, yukity, yuk, yuk...the ACLU, and many other public interest Constitutional rights law firms. Filing a lawsuit[s] is the easy part, convincing five Gods in black dresses on the Supreme Court is the vexing part.

I take this very personally as a kick in the teeth. When I stood before the flag of the United States with raised hand to take the 'Oath of Citizenship' I also made that oath to obey the Constitution of the U.S......not some flag and country under the rule of the hammer and sickle.
My son and many others made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq to ensure we maintained our Freedom as those in our military do every day, and to take any freedom which this country stands for away from us as mccain and cult are doing is no more than spitting on the graves of those we've lost.
Please relay my personal thanks to your daughter for her service and may God keep her safe.
God Bless our President.
God Bless Our Troops.
God Bless all who fight to maintain our Freedom.
God Bless America.
If I knew how to post it I think the Eagle with the falling tears would be very relevant here today.

George W. Bush made CFR a reality by going back on his earlier word to veto exactly such a piece of legislation. It was an act of political cowardice that put us in this situation, and no intellectually honest conservative can absolve him of that blame.
And I'm afraid that isn't debatable.

Jim, running as a democrat would mean he's still lying. Why doesn't he run on the ticket of the party his heart really belongs too.....the Communist Party?

"Isn't it a mainstay of Republican ideology that the best government is limited government? Isn't the veto a critical part of preventing the growth of government?...Clinton used the veto 38 times. Many of those instances were the direct result of excessive expenditures of taxpayer dollars in the bill vetoed. It's true, believe it or not. What does that say about GW?...
What's the new debt ceiling? 20 TRILLION? Is that right? I'm beginning to believe we've been hoodwinked....not that the RATS are right, 'cause they're not. No...I think this is from another direction totally."
Spot on observations. And the GOP has indeed betrayed its platform of fiscal responsibility. Pandering for votes was the culprit.
I do believe the stated debt is a bit less though.
