They didn't get enough of them!

We have a FReeper laying in a Texas hospital fighting for his life as I type this.

He was hit by a drunk driver yesterday as he stood waiting to cross the street.

You're confusing the issue. Drunk driving should and is illegal. Drinking in a bar is not. Texas is going WAY WAY past the line in doing this. It smacks of fascism and a police state that couldn't find enough drunks out on the road so they had to come in the bars (PRIVATE ESTABLISHMENTS) You should be very worried about this development as I am.

This article isn't about drunk driving. It isn't even about fall down dangerous drunks. It's about facist pig jackboots, abusing the law to criminalize people, enhance revenue, and retard freedom.

But because you know someone who was hurt by a drunk driver, you jump on the nannystate, facism supporting bandwagon.

Sorry about your friend, but bad things happen all the time. I hope you will think rationally about this now, and set aside your emotional baggage.

My baby brother retired at age 40 after building up two successful enterprises - 9 months later he played golf with his buddies had dinner left the restaurant and was killed by a drunk driver.
He was a wonderful, funny, loving, smart young man who left behind a ten year old little boy and a big sister that adored him. All this pain because someone walked out of a bar drunk and was too macho to give his keys to someone sober. Pathetic !

He was hit by a drunk driver yesterday

And that is the fault of a bar?

He could have been drinking at home, or in the car w/ no bar involved.

I have a coworker whose cousin was shot and killed a few years back. Because of that incident, my coworker now believes that all guns should be banned throughout the US.

Emotional opinions stemming from tragedies tend to be some of the least valuable.

These people weren't driving. They were sitting at a bar. How do you know they weren't going to call a cab or didn't have a designated driver? Nope, evidently in your world people are guilty until proven innocent.

Welcome to the fascist police state.

"They didn't get enough of them!"

Actually this misuse of resources is more likely the reason the criminal driver was not stopped in time. If the officers were actually patrolling the streets the chances of stopping the driver would have been improved. Instead, the officers had to be on scene at the bar to support the TABs efforts and haul off the non-driving drunks to jail.

Prayers for our fellow freeper.

I blame the invention of the automobile first.

If some technological "improvement" to our lives ends up making us less free, then it's no improvement.

I am vehemently opposed to drunk driving and have been an anti-smoker for ages....BUT...

its gone too far when a privately owned bar can't allow its patrons to smoke or drink heartily if they want.....its gone past being ridiculous to being totalitarian.....

I just saw this on MSNBC right now this minute - they arrested people in a Texas hotel bar who were 'drunk' but the couple were staying in the hotel - they also arrested another 'drunk' even though his date was the designated driver and they arrested a young woman hotel bartender for serving 'drunks'. The bartender looked like a sweet girl earning a living and she was crying hard as she was arrested - you could tell this was her first arrest.

Big Brother will come to power in the form of Big Nanny.

Small gvt conservatism as an political philosophy is dead.

God save the Republic!

My brother was killed by a drunk driver a few years ago while Scott was on business in California. I am the sole person in this world who has the right to forgive the kid who killed him and I am the last person in this world that would advocate this type of action that is now occuring in Texas........
