DETROIT A former Detroit police detective has been found guilty of bank robbery charges.
Walter John Bates, of Southfield, was convicted by federal jury for robbing an Oak Park bank on October 4th, 2002.
Officials say at the time of robbery, Bates was a member of the Detroit Police Department Homicide Squad.
His brother, Albert Stephen Bates, was also convicted of committing five individual bank robberies. He was acquitted of two other bank robbery charges.
Both were also convicted of conspiring to commit a series of bank robberies in the summer of 2002.
Officials say the two and others robbed approximately 13 banks between July 30 and October 8th, 2002.
The Bates brothers will be sentenced June 22nd.
