SAN FRANCISCO, March 22, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In one of the most startling attacks on the Catholic Church coming from a governmental body in the United States in half a century, the governing body of the city of San Francisco - the Board of Supervisors - voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a non-binding resolution blasting the Catholic Church for its opposition to homosexual adoption.
While many city's residents agree with the Church's stand against homosexual adoption, the resolution stated "It is an insult to all San Franciscans when a foreign country, like the Vatican, meddles with and attempts to negatively influence this great city's existing and established customs and traditions, such as the right of same-sex couples to adopt and care for children in need."
The city supervisors levelled an ad hominem attack on former San Francisco Archbishop William Levada, who has been appointed to head the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), one of the most senior posts in the Church. " Cardinal Levada is a decidedly unqualified representative of his former home city, and of the people of San Francisco and the values they hold dear,'' the resolution stated.
The supervisors also demonstrated their childishness as they attempted another dig at the Cardinal by indicating in the resolution that the CDF was once known as the Office of the Inquisition. "That the Board of Supervisors urges Cardinal William Levada, in his capacity as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican (formerly known as Holy Office of the Inquisition), to withdraw his discriminatory and defamatory directive that Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Francisco stop placing children in need of adoption with homosexual households," reads the resolution.
The resolution attacked the teaching of the Catholic Church that homosexual adoption does "violence" to children since they would be placed in an environment that is not conducive to their full human development. The resolution blasted the teaching as "hateful and discriminatory rhetoric (that) is both insulting and callous, and shows a level of insensitivity and ignorance which has seldom been encountered by this Board of Supervisors.''
Demonstrating their own profound ignorance, at least in terms of biological realities, the supervisors contend, "Same-sex couples are just as qualified to be parents as are heterosexual couples." Concluding, the board urged current San Francisco "Archbishop Neiderauer and the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Francisco to defy all discriminatory directives of Cardinal Levada."

When is the Writ of Anathema against San Trannycisco due to be read from all Archdiocese pulpits?
Then why are all we Protestants still around? (smile)
You know what I think, Fee? I think that this is a call for a number of good Catholic men and women to surround the City Hall each morning... and pray the Rosary. Nothing more. Just be there and pray for the intercession of St. Francis for the city named after him. Be there, polite, but every day pray for the city.
I am a strict practicing Catholic and even I don't believe that a city would diss the Catholic Church. What kind of fiction is this story.
Careful. I'm sure some of them are already looking forward to that prospect, in the hopes that you're clean and good looking. ;-)

You might as well "Piss in the Wind" or up a rope as to write the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Voting against the Gay Agenda is Political Suicide in SF. It will never happen. And impugning the Catholic Church for daring to say Marriage is between a Man and a Woman is tantamount to blasphemy to the Gay Activists.
Remember this is the city in the face of the AIDS outbreak refused at first to close the Bath Houses where anonymous sex and group orgies was spreading the HIV Virus like a wild fire.
Gay Groups said it was infringing on "their personal Freedom of Sexual Expression" in other words their right to gang bang one another and spread the virus. Now the Holy Grail of dismantaling Heterosexuality is to destroy Traditional Marriage. Note in Sweden where Gay Marriage was first adopted. Traditional Marriage is all but dead. That is the intended effect.
Just think of all the good things the kids will learn from Bruce and Bruce: how to score in a bathhouse; how to use "poppers" to facilitate anal intercourse; how to treat those nasty Kaposi sarcomas; how to quilt an AIDS blanket. Why the list is endless!
I'm suprised they did not commend the Church for its history of supporting child rape and providing safe haven for pedophiles...
The Catholic Church will never accept homosexual marriages, but that does not mean that they were called vicious names.
The Catholic Church will never accept homosexual marriages, but that does not mean that they were called vicious names.
Am I missing something? I never saw that enumerated as a right in the Constitution... Where is adoption found in the Constition of the U.S. of A. ???
ROTFLMAO ~ definitely!
"In a related story, The Vatican has passed on the decree that from this point on, San Francisco is to be known as 'New Sodom.'"

This arises out of the Italian political situation ~ used to be the Pope ran most of Northern Italy. Then, after a whole lot of history, Garibaldi, Buongiovanni and others held a successful revolution that merged the Kingdom of Piedmont, the Papal States, and other segments of then then politically fragmented Italian peninsula, together with Sicilia, and created a unified Italy (with a king, later deposed and replaced by a Republic with a dictator).
The Revolutionaries carved Vatican City out of Italy and set it up as its own little country.
Actually, it's interesting that you should mention this. The last time I stayed in SF was over a weekend about 15 years ago in the heart of the downtown/major hotel area. It was scary walking down the street in the daylight at that time - between the AIDS victims and the crack addicts all begging for either attention or money........
We are all saved ~ as it were ~ the Board on Geographic Names controls the issue. San Francisco can change the name of their dirty little town all they wish, but it will continue to be known only by the one approved by the federal government.

It really is stunning when reality begins to take on the aura of a Monty Python sketch!
REG:
Furthermore, it is the birthright of every man--
STAN:
Or woman.
REG:
Why don't you shut up about women, Stan. You're putting us off.
STAN:
Women have a perfect right to play a part in our movement, Reg.
FRANCIS:
Why are you always on about women, Stan?
STAN:
I want to be one.
REG:
What?
STAN:
I want to be a woman. From now on, I want you all to call me 'Loretta'.
REG:
What?!
LORETTA:
It's my right as a man.
JUDITH:
Well, why do you want to be Loretta, Stan?
LORETTA:
I want to have babies.
REG:
You want to have babies?!
LORETTA:
It's every man's right to have babies if he wants them.
REG:
But... you can't have babies.
LORETTA:
Don't you oppress me.
REG:
I'm not oppressing you, Stan. You haven't got a womb! Where's the foetus going to gestate?! You going to keep it in a box?!
LORETTA:
[crying]
JUDITH:
Here! I-- I've got an idea. Suppose you agree that he can't actually have babies, not having a womb, which is nobody's fault, not even the Romans', but that he can have the right to have babies.
FRANCIS:
Good idea, Judith. We shall fight the oppressors for your right to have babies, brother. Sister. Sorry.
REG:
What's the point?
FRANCIS:
What?
REG:
What's the point of fighting for his right to have babies when he can't have babies?!
FRANCIS:
It is symbolic of our struggle against oppression.
REG:
Symbolic of his struggle against reality.

It's gonna' be pretty rough on the SFO Board members ~
Actually, Vatican City IS a recognized "country," or at least a "City/State" with it's own military (The Swiss Guard) and postal system.

God may indeed choose to usher a rebel off the scene. Proverbs speaks in general terms to this effect.
