Alert U of M student helps locate children
March 20, 2006
DYERSBURG, Tenn. -- Two Dyersburg children allegedly kidnapped by their live-in babysitter have been found thanks to a University of Memphis student who spotted the missing children, authorities say.
Meagan Smith, 1, and Breanna Garner, 5, went missing around 7 p.m. Friday when their live-in babysitter, Erika Sadowski, 59, took the girls to go shopping, police say.
When the trio hadn't returned home by 1 a.m. Saturday, the girls' parents contacted authorities, who then issued an Amber alert.
Amber McBride, a University of Memphis student who heard the alert on the radio, was on her way to Dyer County Saturday morning and stopped to ask for directions from Sadowski, who had parked along the Obion River levee.
The student realized the trio could be the one noted in the Amber alert and contacted police, who said Sadowski may have been traveling to Delaware, where she has family.
Dyersburg Police Lt. Steve Isbell said no motive for the kidnapping had been determined.
Sadowski was charged Saturday with two criminal counts of aggravated kidnapping. She is set to appear in Dyersburg City Court this afternoon.
Sarah Garner, the mother of the two girls, told the State Gazette newspaper there was no indication the children would be harmed by Sadowski, a retired 20-year U.S. Air Force veteran who had worked for the family since November 2000.
"She never hurt them at all," said Garner. "There's nothing I can think of. She (Sadowski) had no intentions of coming back with my children."
His face looks like 40 miles of bad road..

Enough oil in that hair to heat my home for month. YUK
I am trying to be a better person. I know I should not judge another on his/her looks. But dayum. No way would that be in my house w/my babies.
Thank goodness that NM student was alert. Why would the "IT" be parked at a levee with the children?
There ARE better looking candidates out there:
