Even if she was, Bi-Polar is no excuse for a crime.. It is not a psychotic disorder, it is an emotional disorder, big difference.

Wasn't the kid 14 when this started? A lot of people are talking about his being 16, but he is 16 now, not when the abuse happened.

I would like to see the 'bipolar' diagnosis debunked,
just as hypoglycemia, CFS and fibromyalgia have been debunked.

You aren't on my side? When have you not been on my side? LOL. What about the age of the boy -- does it make any difference to you whether he's 10 or 15? I'm just curious. I tend to lean towards "yes," in that if he's 15 or 16 and goes willingly then it's not all bad. I guess I'm biased because I think back to when I was that age, and had no one, didn't go to the prom, etc. I would have loved attention from anyone, really.

When was hypoglycemia debunked? It is actually a pre-stage of Type 2 Diabetes and has physical indicators that can be measured. Now, I know many who don't have hypoglycemia claim to have it, but it is an actual condition (blood sugar falls below 70mg/dL)

LOL!

well - I happen to be the mother of a 16 yr old son..

I have raised him to treat sex as a fire!

it can be an awesome gift! when in a fireplace- it can warm the family... it can bring sweet moments and memories... bring people closer...

but once it is taken out of the fireplace (marriage) it can BURN THE HOUSE DOWN!!!!

If she was self-serving, this crime never could have happened. It's the serving and physical unselfishness that got her into trouble. If she had forced herself on him, then I would agree this was an evil act. Where am I going wrong? LOL.

Oh, what's his name..? Andrew Weil, M.D., not totally debunked but states that as a valid condition it is rare. See Weil's book Natural Health, Natural Medicine.

That I'll agree with. It is rare to have a physiological condition that causes hypoglycemia. Most people claim to have hypoglycemia actually have hypoglycemic like symptoms based on poor diet or lifestyle issues.

That's good advice and a commendable analogy. Something to strive for. Not everyone is that conservative and well-reasoned and then these kinds of things happen, and become front page news. I don't think I'm not being hard on her because she's cute, but more so because I think back to when I was 14, and I knew what I liked and wanted. This whole thing was wrong, I just don't know how wrong. It seems like maybe the punishment should be a $75 fine or something. Again, only because the boy was okay with it, at the time.

Y'know... my point was that some of these 'diagnoses' are a little over-worked.

The term 'bipolar' sounds so benign and makes its owner into a victim, when the term 'sociopath' is more accurate.

Out of curiosity, have you heard where Levin stands on this case? I imagine him not coming down all that hard on the girl. I think a lot of people (especially men) will condemn the hell out of the teacher when, secretly, they're pretending to be outraged. Do you see that happening as well?
