I can't believe any newspaper would print this story.
They have to fill all of those blank pages where ad copy use to be.

"The confident kids (smart ass little brats) turned out liberal (traitor) and were still hanging loose (smoking dope), turning into bright (steals music on-line), non-conforming (claims to support our troops while not supporting their mission) adults (a child over 8 has the right to library porn) with wide interests (fish have feelings too). The girls were still outgoing (sluts with a couple abortions under their belts), but the young men tended to turn a little introspective (fags)."

For instance, there was a .27 correlation between being self-reliant in nursery school and being a liberal as an adult. Another way of saying it is that self-reliance predicts statistically about 7 per cent of the variance between kids who became liberal and those who became conservative. (If every self-reliant kid became a liberal and none became conservatives, it would predict 100 per cent of the variance). Seven per cent is fairly strong for social science, but it still leaves an awful lot of room for other influences, such as friends, family, education, personal experience and plain old intellect.
Despite the headline, the article equivocates. The research found out a 0.27 correlation in the uber-liberal Bay Area.
This proves nothing.

You mean some babies went to a Berkley-area preschool and actually turned out conservative? Sounds like a miracle to me....

Just think of the millions of dollars that Jack Block probably begged the government to give him to funds this study.
I am from the Bay Area, and it does not surprise me such a "study" would take place at UCB.
UC Berkely is afterall one of the only campuses in the country that I know of with a student group that represents the pedophile group, NAMBLA.
As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Jack Block was the UC Berkely professor that advised Ruth Bader Ginsberg that the age of consent should be rolled back to 12 or 10, and that pedophilia is a "normal" urge.
Yet, another reason to attack the Peoples Republic of Berkely.

Blah, blah, blah. Same "conservatism as psychological disorder" tripe the Berkeley crew tried a few years ago. I wrote a piece ripping that one for intellectualconservative.com.

"The grown-up liberal men, on the other hand, with their introspection and recognition of complexity in the world, could be seen as self-indulgent and ineffectual."
As if the liberal researchers would know how to spot proper child development when they saw it.
Best one yet!

You are very correct. Conservatives are thought to be criminals by the Left. And Christians are thought to be crazy, as many UCB professors teach in their own classes.

"95 kids from the Berkeley area that social scientists have been tracking for the last 20 years"
Umm, let's see 95 kids from the Berkeley area. Is that supposed to be a representative sample for the general population? Is Berkeley supposed to be mainstream America?? I hardly think so

Berkley - that says it all. Hardly an unbiases research group.
We all know that liberals are the whiners.

I have no controlled scientific study to back up my beliefs, but all the conservatives that I know are very individualistic and independent (no whining). The liberals that I know tend to expect the state to tell them "best." This study had to be wrong.
