U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris continued her attempt to take her campaign to national television and to add religious overtones to her quest for a U.S. Senate seat with an appearance on ABC News "Nightline" Tuesday.
Harris told John Donvan, of "Nightline," that she intends to sell all her personal assets to fund the race. "My husband has real estate, but I will not own anything."
Since making a pledge last week to put $10 million of her money into the race, Harris has made the phrase "putting everything on the line" a new campaign theme.
"I am willing to take this widow's mite, this pearl of great price, and put everything on the line," she told Donvan. "No matter how much you have, are you willing to take what you have and sell it all for a great price?"
Donvan did not ask her about her links to defense contractor Mitchell Wade, who recently pleaded guilty to bribing a California congressman.
Donvan told the Tribune there was no agreement to avoid any subject in the interview.
Since revelations about those links appeared in court documents three weeks ago, Harris has avoided interviews with Florida reporters and answered few substantive questions about the issue.
Instead, she has chosen nonconfrontational venues for speaking to the public.

What was she thinking, though, by appearing on Nightline?
Well, after the election, she'll be broke and unemployed, I'm guessing. I don't think she has a prayer.
Nice positive thinking.. bet the dems would love that soundbite.
what is adding "religious overtones"? the word religious is a word that God dislikes. He wants a relationship.

If she's willing to sell all of her assets, well, I can't imagine that this news will convince anyone sitting on the fence. I think it's a dumb tactic. Besides, how many people will truly believe it?
Man I hope the election is close, because if she's desperate for funding....well....let's just say she has a few assets I'm willing to lay out some cash for.
....Did I say that out loud?
I'll take some of her ass...ets.
Pardon me, I hiccuped.
"Nice positive thinking.. bet the dems would love that soundbite."
I'm a realist. Katherine Harris hasn't a prayer. This money won't help.
I agree she will probably be unemployed after the election, but I doubt she'll be broke, even after spending 10 mil. As I understand it, she comes from a very wealthy family...old money.
I'm starting to like this lady.
Not her words...
I like her. She's got guts. I hope she wins.
"Like it or not, she is our candidate.. I would rather focus on how we can help her win, not that she 'cannot' win.. "
She's not my candidate. I'm far from Florida. The way to win elections is to choose candidates who have a chance to win. Harris doesn't. I'm fed up to here with supporting candidates just because they have an (R) after their name on the ballot.
And that picture of Harris on the horse? That, alone, would guarantee my vote for a third-party candidate. I'd much rather have brains in office than T&A, thanks.
I met Mrs. Harris a couple of years ago at Reagan National Airport. We had both taken the same flight up from FL. She is a striking woman in person. But, wow, what a lot of makeup! As I recollect, she was dressed, head-to-toe, in a skin-tight(not kidding now) body suit, waist length leather coat with fur trim and knee high leather boots with at least three-inch heels. Ahem!
She was very polite when I introduced myself.
As a counterpoint to that, this past Sunday, I took a flight up from Orlando that featured Newt Gingrich sitting in the first row in first class. He was with a woman who had on enough makeup to supply the cosmetic counter at Nordstrom's.
One of two things appears to be going on with this woman. One, she truly believes that she can make such a difference in the well being of Americans that she is willing to put herself in poverty (LOL), which would take more arrogance than I would put up with if I were a Floridian; or two, she is so upset with the GOP shunning her attempts at this office that's she is willing to put herself in poverty just to show them. If that's the case she is psychotic. Neither of these sound like someone I would vote for. |
Good thing the assets are in hubbys name
Unfortunately, no Republican A-list candidate has stepped up to the plate. Sad to see this US Senate seat stay in Democratic hands.
