Who says time travel isn't possible?
I got a bona fide '60s flashback last week when I attended a meeting of the John Birch Society.
Remember them?
Frankly, I was astonished to learn the Birch Society still exists. Shouldn't it have crumbled along with the Berlin Wall?
For those too young to remember, the Birch Society was one of many groups fighting the global menace of communism.
But of all the patriots standing foursquare against communism, the Birchers were always the ones in tin-foil hats.
Or so it seemed. Bless their hearts, they were sort of the kooky cousins of anti-communism the folks who never met a conspiracy theory they didn't bite.
And sure enough, last week's meeting had barely started before there was a sneering reference to the Council on Foreign Relations.
I got a nostalgic little shiver. How cute! They still hate the CFR.
You know in the cartoons how the Super Friends always battled the evil Legion of Doom?
Well, for Birchers, the starchy Council on Foreign Relations is the Legion of Doom. It's part of the nefarious "invisible government" that really runs the country.

I agree. Larry McDonald was a great congressman.
Well, the CFR may not be especially harmful, but it's certainly not a beneficial presence. The Federal Reserve is one of the main reasons our monetary system is screwed up, and they happen to be absolutely right about fiat money. It's dangerous. It saps all the purchasing power out of your dollras, giving you less and less and less bang for the buck. It should not be allowed. It's essentially government counterfeiting.
You're right about Malcolm X. Revilo may not have used that precise expression but he said something along the same lines...to the effect that the Communists had gotten rid of Kennedy because he had finished serving their purposes.
"Maybe because they saw rich Jews manipulating politicians and public events?"
I'm sure you can provide us with evidence of this?
What I see most in their literature is denunciation of the UN. Do you disagree with the society in their position on the UN?
No. But the gems of wisdom from Birchers get lost in all the conspiracy nonsense.
Take a look at the ads in the back of The New American. Those will tell you all you need to know about Birchers.
you said "If I saw some facts, I'd take them into account."

Um, we were talking about Dwight D. Einsehower, not passports.
Well, if facts bother you on passports they probably would infuriate you on Eisenhower, since he was one of the usefull idiots V.I. Lennin referred to. Check the Verona papers and see how many communist operatives were in his administration.
I hope you are joking. As I said, I examined their literature -- it is irrationally extreme. I suppose that if your views match theirs then you wouldn't see a problem with it, but I do. Their political views are on the extreme fringe, nowhere near the mainstream. There are "nuts" on both ends of the political spectrum.
I'll live on the sane side of the street, if you don't mind.
I was just curious as to how some views come to be classified as either mainstream or on the fringe. Ever stop to think that perhaps the so-called mainstream news sources could have an agenda that prevents in-depth coverage on certain events? FR has proven that the internet provides far more depth and info on numerous issues as compared to what we usually hear from the nightly news or the talking heads on the radio. Many of us are much more informed on a multitude of issues and gov't policies than we ever would've been if our only source was a Dan Rather or someone like that.
I recall you posting a while back that you did not favor small government. Is this one of the reasons you dislike the Birchers so much?
You recall incorrectly.
I said that I recognized that there will never be such a thing as small government. The American people, the majority of them, don't want small government.
I don't believe the so-called mainstream media reflects the values of average mainstream Americans. Of course, the MSM has an agenda. And yes, the JBS does represent SOME valid points that we should heed. No doubt there ARE some conspiracies against our country. But the JBS conspiracy theories are so wild and implausable that the JBS is discredited as a kook outfit. I was hopeful about them until I read their literature. That's about all I can say on this subject.
At least he practices what he preaches...up to a point. The last time I was in Rome, I walked from Italy into Vatican City without anyone asking me for any identification. On the other hand, Vatican City is only open in one direction, to the east--there's a high wall around the rest of it. Maybe we can emulate the Vatican by building a wall along all of our borders except the Atlantic seaboard.
Some of those Birchers call C-SPAN to make fool of themselves. Rush Limbaugh cuts them off on his show, but the C-SPAN host lets them go on and on. Funny loonies.
