BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Transcripts from the 1990s show Saddam Hussein was frustrated that no one believed Iraq had given up banned weapons.
At one meeting with top aides in 1996, Saddam wondered if U.N. inspectors would "roam Iraq for 50 years."
The transcripts are translations recently released by the U.S., and are from audio and videotapes of top-level Iraqi meetings held from 1991 to 1997.
Repeatedly, Saddam and his lieutenants reminded each other that Iraq destroyed its chemical and biological weapons in the early 1990s, and shut down the nuclear-bomb program. At one point, a frustrated Saddam exclaimed, "We don't have anything hidden!"
Some of Saddam's inner circle talked of reviving the programs, saying, "The factories will remain in our brains." But Saddam talked about converting the factories to beneficial uses.
Supposedly, this was a video tape. They could only release the audio because they couldn't get Saddam to quit winking and making quotation marks in the air with his fingers.
Hear this report during the break in Hugh Hewitts show on the ride home yesterday in Denver... I yelled "BS!" at the radio.
I think this is a preemptive strike against the tapes and documents being released.
No, Iraq was never a threat...that'll be the conclusion of the leftist media and their friends the Democrats.
Oh yeah, Did ya hear my call on his show?
I got through and said this.
"Hugh, Maybe it's so ingrained in CNN to whitewash the news out of Iraq, because of all those years having a deal with Saddam so they could keep their Baghdad bureau, that they just can't report the good news."
I couldn't hear Hugh's response cause my station had freaking basketball on.
Yes I did hear your call!!! I can't remember the responce real well other than Hugh was amused and kind of agreed. (I was still talking to myself over the "news" report! I have real trouble listening to ABCCBSNBCCNNMSNBC without going into rant mode.)
To find a tape where Saddam said he did not have WMD, is not even news worthy. He has been saying that since 1990. What is news worthy is a tape where he says he DID have them.
Repeatedly, Saddam and his lieutenants reminded each other that Iraq destroyed its chemical and biological weapons in the early 1990s, and shut down the nuclear-bomb program. At one point, a frustrated Saddam exclaimed, "We don't have anything hidden!"
" Great Leader, is there something wrong with your eye? You keep winking!"
" I said, there never were any WMDS."
"Great Leader, I have a bottle of Visene right here, it will help you with your eye problem"
Pistol shot rings out.
If they didn't have anything in 1996, why did Clinton say they did, and what did Clinton bomb with his 400 cruise missiles?
