It was not uncommon to be showing them around the plant or taking them to dinner to have the group leader grab your hand and hold it. That was a sign of respect and friendship and to reject it would have been an insult. There was absolutely no homosexual aspect involved.

That is not my point at all. I am not concerned with Arab customs. This is not Arabia. It is America. And for our President to walk around his ranch hand-in-hand with another man--especially one who leads a nation from which 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers emerged--was incredibly stupid politically. It made the papers all over the nation, the covers of 2 books, and unneccessary fodder to our Democrat foes. Why do this? Is Bush so insulated that he doesn't understand the American people at all anymore?

First of all, unlike people like you, Bush has a larger view of things and more responsibility for them. He knows all this handholding BS will fade from view while our relationship with Saudi Arabia will continue.

Secondly, he is unswayed by polls and politics in his effort to do what is right for this country. Some call it a political tin ear. Many, like you, wish he would pay more attention and do a better job along that line for the benefit of the party.

Thirdly, Saudi helps us a lot in our war on terror but they do it behind the scenes by necessity. The crown rests uneasily on the head of the leader of Saudi as there are many factions there seeking that role. There are more members of the royal family than there are populations of some small cities. All have money and influence and many are ambitious.

The world is very large and there are many political facets of it. We are not privy to them all.
