Benton Harbor, MI - A Benton Harbor father is charged with murdering his own daughter.

Friends say there had been on-going friction between 60-year-old Albert Ellington and his 12-year-old daughter, Albertnisha for some time.

Sunday night, an apparent argument ended with Albertnisha being stabbed to death.

Shocking tragedy Albert Ellington just got custody of his two pre-teen daughters late last year. Friends say the meek, mild-mannered man apparently snapped after, what they say, was physical and mental abuse by his daughter.

As Albert was arraigned for killing his 12-year-old daughter, those who knew of the situation inside their Hurd Street home are shocked.

Neighbors say just after 5:00 Sunday night, the elder Ellington, hands bloodied, told them to call police, that he had just stabbed his daughter.

The 7th grader at Hull Middle School was found dead on her living room floor in a pool of blood.

"I think she just made him real mad. He got fed-up with her and what she was doing to him. Hurting him all the time,” said Deandrea Clarke, Albert’s Goddaughter.

Clarke and Ellington's friend Linda Williams say Albertnisha fought often with her father.

“She had been abused all down and then he was a meek and humble man. He would give her what she wanted just to leave her alone,” said Williams.

"He was terrified of his own child,” said Clarke.

But Benton Harbor Police characterize the tension as normal.

"There were some disputes going on whether or not she could leave the home, whether or not she should stay in the home, things of that nature. Almost the typical father-teenage, or not even at this point teenage dispute,” said Chief Al Mingo, Benton Harbor Police.

Ongoing situation Albert is being held without bond, charged with murdering his own daughter.

Police say they were called to the Ellington home about a week ago because of an earlier dispute between father and daughter. They say the situation had calmed down and there was no threat of violence.

A younger sister of Albertnisha's is reportedly staying with relatives.

"Albertnisha"

What an unfortunate name ... the female equivalent of "Boy Named Sue?"

This "meek, mild-mannered man" just "snapped" and committed a horrible crime against a 12-year-old? I do not believe it. My guess is that he was contemplating this crime for some time.

Isn't Benton Harbor a small town in Western Michigan that is a really bad area? I mean, the 'hood?

Yes. That is true. Another Michigan jewel.

I'm not trying to rationalize his reaction but I've seen some 12 year olds in Los Angeles, street wise and hard. You would never guess they were pre-teens. They have the eyes of 30 year olds reflecting a life of hard experiences. They have attitude and life has little value to them. They will kill you while smiling and never show any regret.

Yes, I have encountered one or two young people who were like that. However, in this case, it was not the 12-year-old who committed the murder, but her 60-year-old father.

People are quoted in the article as saying he just suddenly "snapped." I hear that excuse all the time. In most cases, I do not buy it.
