There is a very rigid secularist mentality that is being enforced almost as if it were a religion. It is used - for example - to ban religious references during high school commencement exercises. The Founders would roll over in their graves if they knew the Federal courts were now assuming jurisdiction over the content of speech in public high schools. The application of the First Amendment to the individual states virtually negates the intent of that Amendment, i.e., it gives the Federal government authority in areas where the First Amendment intended to exclude it.

Probably. However, before they started rolling, they'd ask "What's a public high school". There were no public schools in their day, IIRC.
