Good simile for this. This type of thread, along with the obsessive posting of photos of women who are not classically attractive, always accompanied by some nastiness, represent the worst of Free Republic.
Whenever I see the "ugly woman" posts, I'm always curious what these posters grandmothers look like. Do they think the same thing of their older female relatives?
In some areas, Free Republic stands out as a forum for good discussion. In others, like these threads, it represents something else, entirely. It's not a pretty side of FR.

And what is funny is anytime you comment on the trashing of unattractive folks, you're met with this esoteric "Well, they're libs" or "They're behavior is bad" etc.
But half the time, they don't even know the names of who they are posting! I've seen everything from school girls to handicapped kids trashed on these threads.
