Thanks a lot for *that* one.

"Dowager itch" is not something I care to contemplate.

I find polls to be untrustworthy.

Actually, I find pollsters to be untrustworthy. I trust the polls to tell me something -- that is, the biases of the pollsters and their methodologies.

Here is Helen Thomas etal disrespectfully slamming the President-who-is-Hitler, according to Jay Bennish, etal.

Do they get how childish they are? Do they see the contradiction?

Do they think "Hitler" or their beloved "Stalin" or Chris Matthew's kitschy "che guevara" or Saddam or UBL or Hugo Chavez or Pooty or just about ANYBODY who is Anti-America would let them live for ONE SECOND if they tried this in one of those countries with those leaders?

Jay Bennish can insult the POTUS on national TV and still keep his job. Helen Thomas is not hauled off in chains, or even uninvited.

For better or worse, there is no freer country.

I have been watching your posts DTOM888. I can not say I am impressed.

You see the trees really good. But you are missing the Forest. Pick all the nits ya like, but it is the big picture and the OUTCOME that matters.

Can the President do better? Of course. So can you. He is no more perfect than you are. Are there things this Administration has done that a lot of us don't like? I can say with certainty that there is! Does that mean he deserves your scathing and premature reviews of him? No.

Back away from the keyboard. Take a big breath. Go Read Bill Sammons new book. Then come back whey you have your panties un knotted. You have a laundry list of complaints, but no solutions that are realistic in the least.

Should not a real leader of the USA make Congress eliminate this "auto-pilot"??? Should not a real leader make getting this spending level proper for the future of our descendants his #1 priority

I don't like the out of control spending any more than any other conservative but fer cryin' out loud! How in the hell do es one make Congress do anything regarding spending??? No President is going to make Congress do anything about spending...Bush can't and Reagan couldn't either. Spending is what make the world go around for those critters. It's all the influence and power in the world to them and they're not apt to give it up. To criticize President Bush for failing to do the impossible is highly unfair.

You are hung up about the SOTU address and where various items come up in the speech, which does not pull that big of an audience. You overestimate its importance. Bush has been using the bully pulpit on entitlement reform more than any other President.

It is not a matter of getting Congress focused. It has to do with the politics of the issue. Unless there is bipartisan support, reform won't happen and the Dems and some Reps believe it is more advantageous politically to oppose any reform now. They blame Bush for making it a phony crisis. They mislead the American public by saying that SS is safe until 2041 pointing to the SSTF, which just contains IOUs and represents a liability and not an asset. They also try to scare the elderly and disabled that their benefits will be cut. The Dems want more people dependent upon the government to increase their power and influence.

Bush can only say, hear me now, believe me later. Congress knows that SS is unsustainable as is currently structured, but they won't do anything about it until it hits crisis proportions. Unfortunately, most Americans are ignorant on how SS works.

Who passes legislation?

Who has the veto pen?

The veto pen only works on new legislation. He can't go back and change the rules for prior entitlement programs.

No, seriously. We have enough facts on our side. I need to clean it up. We need to stay out of the mud, lest we become our own worst enemy.

Really.

I mean it.

No, really.

He says a democracy in Iraq is going to change the neighborhood. War creates unease. I couldn't look in the eyes of those who have lost loved ones if I didn't have a plan for victory. They want to drive us out of Iraq to have a place from which to launch their attacks. Their words are not meaningless propaganda.

What I wouldn't give for him to finish that sentence with "unlike many of your words."

Sonny M. Why not just repeal or reform the budget act of 1974 and allow the executive to embargo funds again?

Up until watergate, Presidents (from George Washington until Nixon) were able to do just that....without a specific line item veto.

Fortunately I turned on the tv to check the weather and caught the beginning of the Pres press conf. He was in good form and for some reason the press reporters were respectful and behaved as professionals. Even Helen Thomas controlled her viper tongue. I like that the follow up questions have been eliminated. That trimmed the sails of those who indulge in bashing instead of asking legitimate questions. This was an excellent press conference for both Q&A. He has confidence in his staff and is not planning to dump anybody. Good. Let DC play their silly games, President Bush is a real man who has a job to do and is not shirking it. I leave it to others to dissect everything he said. I was just assured one more time that voting for George Bush twice was two of the more brilliant things I have done in my life.

" Excellent press-conference by our CIC/POTUS.
He needs to get out in front of the American public more. Address the Nation more. Bypass the silly MSM."

From your mouth to the White House Communications ear.
A forceful press secretary who could articulate President Bush's policies and stand up to the DC press fools would also help.
Speaking of fools- where is the giggling Tickle Me DavidGregory ?

I must have missed this section in Government class. Please explain how the Executive Branch MAKES the Legislative Branch do something?

Fact of the matter is that your unhappiness is somewhat misdirected. You should be flaming mad at the Congress for not doing THEIR PART in reducing spending. Every budget has been higher than the President has suggested. Yes, the President could have vetoed at least one spending bill. But, place blame on the LAW MAKERS as well.

The President has faced 9/11 in the first term and the biggest natural disaster in history in the second.

1] Eliminate the cost for Defense and just look at all other spending--Bush has spent like we are not at war. Study the OMB figures. The point that Bush has increased spending at a rate far exceeding other modern day presidents is not even debatable.

2] Natural disaster? Throwing these billions at New Orleans was not necessary. New Orleans was looked upon as a "black situation". Florida was not. If you compare the money spent on Katrina versus the money spent on Florida following the 2004 hurricanes, and if you look at total insured losses in both areas and run the figures, you will find that an abnormally large amount of money has gone to LA and that is so it will be looked upon as some sort of taking care of the black people. I'm a minority, so don't accuse me of any racist opinion, but the clear fact is that the images shown of blacks looting, and blacks being rescued and blacks making up 90% of the population, etc, caused Bush and his admin to dump billion into LA just for the sake of dumping billions to diffuse comments like "you ignored the black people". If Florida were 90% black, Bush probably would have done the same thing. Your comment about "natural disasters" does not help your side of this debate but actually hurts you since it helps prove my point that crazy spending has been done for political correctness, not out of sound spending policies.

PS ... if we don't prevail in the WOT .. nothing else matters (or will be here some day, in some major US city, God forbid).

How much success do you have with your Congresscritters? They marching to the drumbeat of your demands?
