First off, Muslims had nothing to do with this. For those who don't know, the shrine is in the center of Bangkok's financial area. The condos around that area are some of the most expensive in Thailand. Sounds like a spoiled rich kid who finally found a way to end his depression.

The father said he had not heard from his son after learning that he was killed.

I had to read that twice.

I haven't seen this shrine, its in the hotel?

I usually stay in the Suvkumvit area, far from the Chao Praya.

It is on the corner of Ratchadamri and Ratchapasong Rd. If you are on the skytrain, get off at Chit Lom station. It is on the street corner.

Here is one of my pictures of it.

This is appalling news!

In other news, Toxin is already on the news getting involved saying the government will provide funds to rebuild it. Too bad the guy took a hammer to the wrong statue...

OK, I know where its at, across from Gaysorn plaza near the royal sport club.

Damn.

I've walked past it a hundred times, I'd get off at Chit Lom to go to Pantip Plaza all the time, and to eat seafood.

I never really paid attention to it, seemed too touristy to me.

Now you got me wanting to go back, I love Bangkok, but only for a few days at a time, then I have to hit Phuket or Samui.

You've gotta see this. There's just too many angles to work on this story...

1: "The man fled but was later caught up by some taxi drivers and people started to beat him up"

Guess he didn't pay his toll...

2: "Pol Maj Gen Krissasda Phankhongchuen, deputy metropolitan police commissioner, said the man, who suffered severe injuries on his head..."

There is absolutely no proof that the man was stoned to death with the ridiculously excessive number of syllables in the police major's name.

3: "The father said he had not heard from his son after learning that he was killed."

Really.

I lived in Thailand for a while in the 70's. This is an old civilization and their traditions demand they deal with violent protesters harshly. The loss of the shrine is a tragedy.
