Or maybe it is because they still know how to cook basic foods. You can get things like rice, beans, flour in 50 lb bags for for about $5 each. And I've noticed that the Walmart Superstore carries a lot of low end meat products like beef cheeks, and various offal that native born Americas don't have much use for at very low prices. It takes very little money to each a healthy diet with that kind of food.

Very true. I learned that after getting married. It's way cheaper to cook basic, staple foods and freeze the leftover portions. We're talking $50 a week in savings.
