DAVENPORT, Iowa -- U.S. Sen. George Allen preached a message of fiscal discipline this weekend to Iowa Republicans eyeing him as a potential Republican candidate for president in 2008.
"We don't have a revenue problem in Washington, we have a spending problem," the Virginia senator said to Republican audiences in Cedar Falls on Friday and Davenport yesterday.
"He sounds like he's got a lot of Ronald Reagan in him," said Al Kroeger, who had journeyed from Wilton to a breakfast meeting in Davenport yesterday morning to size up Allen.
Maryann Cooper of Garrison said she liked what she heard at a dinner meeting Friday night in Cedar Falls but would like to spend more time with Allen to get a fuller sense of how he feels about issues.
"I know he did a good job in Virginia," Cooper said of Allen's stint as governor from 1994 to 1998.

Virginia has produced a lot of Presidents. I think we can stand one more.
To: P8riot
Did any Iowa Freepers see him?
He's on my radar screen. He's not perfect, but I haven't found the perfect one, yet.
To: P8riot
But he journeys to Texas on Thursday, South Carolina on Friday and New Hampshire, the first presidential primary state, on Saturday. There he will be the keynote speaker at the Republican state convention.
It would be great if a video of his keynote speech at the NH Republican state convention got posted here. So far he looks like he might be the best candidate in the field. Seeing that speech would be a good way for us to try him out. CONSUMER WARNING: I supported Phil Graham in 1996 and he really bombed.
To: P8riot
He is my choice so far and I can't thnk of anything that will change it.

Of any that are seeking the nomination at this point he is by far the best imo.
I hope it is not McCain at the end but will support him if it is.
One of the things you learn living in NY,you take what you can get and not get too hung up on the things you don`t like about some Republicans.
The alternatives are beyond the imaginations of much of the country, thinking Cuomo here.
Had he run for President like the NY media wanted, who knows what would have happened, being the days before the "new media".

CONSUMER WARNING: I supported Phil Graham in 1996 and he really bombed.Dole's dirty tricks after Gramm handed Dole his head on a plate in the Iowa Straw poll was the beginning of the end.
As for Allen, he seems to be most closely alligned with my views, but there are a few little things I'd need clarification on before I would agree to sinking a yardsign in my yard.

she heard Pence one time when he gave a horrible interview on Hannity.Prayerfully, she will discover that is the very rare exception, not the rule!

Allan may be the first man's man we have seen in a long time. He even has sons, whereas most recent presidents have only had daughters.
To: libstripper
I supported Phil Graham in 1996 and he really bombed. Me, too, and I was really surprised. Nice to finally know who the other voter was. :-)

Freepers, ride along side this GOP 2008 Presidential candidate!
And you're going to love Senator George Allen's quote on Democrats (see my tagline).

Senator Allen in harm's way.
Unlike Democratic metrosexuals and lesbian candidates, 2008 brings Freepers, and America, a real man's man, the son of legendary football Coach George Allen.

Of the candidates we know will run for the Presidency in '08 only one evokes the name Reagan when being described...George Allen.
