the officers seen on the video were recently cleared of looting because they had received permission from superiors to take necessities for themselves and other officers.

Their "superiors" don't have the authority to authorize them to loot, only the manager of the store or a person from Walmart corporate has the authority to allow that. It's not theirs to give away.

What a slap in the face for the rest of the country. IF she had permission why did she threaten the news crew? I am now sick and am going to have an adult beverage and try and forget my tax dollars going to this scum town.

When the police investigate themselves, this is what happens.

The police don't like to make the police look bad, even when the police have made the police look bad.

One would think that New Orleans would like to put its corrupt policies of the past behind them, but with this type of decision, it seems to me that they want to keep the corruption with them as they go forward.

What is to be expected when those investigating the crimes are just as big in the criminal world as the ones being investigated. This is a literal application of the "let he who is without guilt cast the first stone". As those who were doing the investigating were just as guilty, they didn't feel it was right to "convict" those CAUGHT ON TAPE OBVIOUSLY AND WITH AN ATTITUDE LOOTING the WalMart.

From now on, anyone in the NO area who wants to walk out of WalMart with a basket full of merchandise without paying should legally be entitled to it. Isn't there a legal precident involving "equal protection". If it's not wrong for police officers to steal, then it's not wrong for the "average Joe".

This just makes me so sick in so many ways....

Okey, dokey! That explains everything. It only LOOKED like looting on TV. It's OK to loot if you have permission from your superiors. I guess you'd have to be NOPD to understand.

They had permission to put that big screen TV in the back of the stolen Caddilac?

"It was determined that all four officers had received permission from their commanders to get clothing for fellow officers who were soaking wet," Superintendent Warren Riley said through a spokesperson Friday. "They did not steal anything."

That last sentence shows an interesting interpretation of the law.

Makes me want to go to N.O. for a vacation and spend my money knowing I'll be safely protected by the local law enforcement officers.
Anyone ever hear what became of the hundreds of ficticious cops that were getting paid? And maybe who was getting that money?

The whole country watched these thieves steal and now we learn they get away with it. But was there really any doubt they would? They have a friggin excuse for everything they do. Intelligent people know what they witnessed. The ignorant will continue to let these leeches from hell get away with it and make excuses for them. She (the main one that talked to the reporter while stealing) is nothing but a fat pig who probably taught her own kids to steal to get whatever they want, whenever they want just as her parents did. It is THEIR way of life.
