Galveston County Democratic Party Chairman Lloyd Criss issued a news release this week saying he had asked for a list of voters whose addresses have been called into question.
One of the primary reasons I have requested the list of suspended voters is because I want to know if the preponderance of those suspended reside in Democratic precincts, he wrote.
Tax Assessor-Collector Cheryl Johnson, whose office is responsible voter registration, said shed be glad to provide the list to anyone who asked, but she said she was offended by the implication that she might play politics with the voter rolls.
How dare he? she asked. Mr. Criss needs to get a life.
She noted that her voter registration coordinator was a Democrat.
The right to vote is the cornerstone of our form of government, she said. Why would I play games with that?
Criss contended that some Democratic precinct chairs had noticed large numbers of voters with an S next to their names.
Johnson said that just meant her office was doing its job. She said the designation would not prevent anyone from voting.
It just means you have to provide more documentation, she said. I dont know what the big deal is.
Johnson said she had no idea how many of the voters on the list were Democrats.
I cant tell whether theyre Democrats or Republicans, and I couldnt care less, she said.
Criss said Johnson had inaccurately accused past tax collectors of having a 50 percent return rate on voter cards.
Johnson said she based that percentage on comments by her predecessor, Trish Gibbons.
I have a recording of a commissioners court meeting where she was justifying her postage budget, Johnson said.
The office mailed about 170,000 cards, she said, so a 50 percent return rate would have amounted to 85,000.
To get 10,000 back was actually an improvement, she said.
The issue of returned voter registration cards came up during the party primaries earlier this month when it came to light that 10,000 to 20,000 voter registration cards had been returned to Johnsons office.
Criss said his brother, Don, and the Democratic Party secretary, Loretta Davis, had been notified that they were on the list. Johnson said neither actually was.
Criss said a candidate in the recent primary had reported registering 150 people, less than a third of whom had shown up on the voter rolls. Johnson said she had no record of the candidate as a registrar.
If he has indeed accepted applications without a current appointment by my office, he will have committed a class C misdemeanor, she said.
Criss urged anyone with concerns about their registrations to contact him.
If proper answers or actions are not forthcoming, legal action will be taken, he said.
Johnson threatened legal action of her own. She accused Criss of trying to disrupt the operation of her office.
I will file charges against him if he does not cease and desist, she said.
Hmmm!
Heads up!
Outrageous! Where have all our dead voters gone? And all the convicted felons? And the homeless? And the illegal aliens?
The ThugoRats could lose an election if it gets to honest!!!

Ping me next time she runs a campaign and I'll send a check.
Without voter fraud, Dems would win very few elections, IMHO. We have so few statesmen in this country. I am amazed we do as well as we do, considering.
The Dems know all the details. Why are they sounding so shocked.
I'm like her. I should move to Texas.
The Demo/Socialists are right to be concerned about voter rolls. As it now stands they can depend only on the black voter and even many blacks are wising up. (Kick me again!)
The traditional blue-collar and white middle-class voter has deserted the Dem/Socs in droves. As a result the Dems have lost election after election at all levels of government.
To make up for this loss the Dem/socs are desperately reaching out for the illegal alien and tombstone vote.
