Tim Russert, N.Y. Times Subpoenaed In CIA Leak Case
POSTED: 12:47 pm EST March 16, 2006 UPDATED: 12:54 pm EST March 16, 2006 Email This Story | Print This Story WASHINGTON -- Lawyers for I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby have subpoenaed The New York Times, former Times reporter Judith Miller and NBC correspondent Tim Russert for documents concerning the disclosure of an undercover CIA agent's identity, as the former White House aide's legal team prepares for his trial.
Libby, who was Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, is charged with five counts of perjury, obstruction and lying to the FBI. Prosecutors contend he lied about how he learned of undercover officer Valerie Plame's CIA status.
A spokeswoman for the newspaper said Thursday that the subpoenas are for documents concerning the disclosure of Plame's identity.
NBC spokeswoman Barbara Levin confirmed Russert also received a subpoena. Libby told FBI agents and a federal grand jury that his information about Plame had come from Russert. But Russert has said they never discussed it.
Plame's CIA identity was revealed by conservative columnist Robert Novak in July 2003, eight days after Plame's husband, former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson, alleged the Bush administration had twisted prewar intelligence on Iraq.
If they'd just start with Joe Wilson, we could wrap this up pretty quick and forget calling the rest.
Once Wilson goes down, and he will, Fitz credibility on anything else will be non-existent
Busy Scooter day, eh?
LOL, some careers yet to be made.

Not exactly, the Wilson's had reporters over the house for Barbeque on the 4th of July. Certainly the matter of Val's being a CIA "insider" must have been broached.
[Valerie Plame] I refuse to answer the question based on my 5th Ammendment right not to embarass myself.
No doubt every reporter at that BBQ will get a supeona to Libby's BBQ...

Uncle Joe Wilson under oath.... priceless!
Much ado about nothing.
Can we expect the trial to be televised?
interesting that the AP would not mention Russert's name.
Wilson and Pflame should lead off the testimonies, and they should be grilled by Libby's attorneys to the maximum extent of human endurance (people tend to slip up when they get tired or bored, and Joe Wilson is especially incapable of rational thought when his focus drifts, which is all the time). What's needed are candid admissions of their real role and activities, and revelations of the contradictions in their stories.
I can't remember ever seeing Wilson ever have to answer any questions in any interview, that wasn't set up on the little T-ball post for him.
True, but at one point I read all of his public remarks that I could find, including several stream-of-consciousness speeches, and I am left with the distinct impression of a man who is both feeble-minded and so full of himself that it should not be hard for a strong attorney to tie him into knots.
He has been allowed to avoid all hard questions to date, due to a leftist MSM wholly subservient to promoting his stories, but it would be a different story if he were under oath on a witness stand with a strong examination.
Looks like Fitzgerald has job security at least for another year.
