There was a great column a few years back about how France has never really been on our side since the Revolution..........I'll see if I can hunt it up.

Basically the American Revolution was about freedom and democracy, while the French Revolution was much more about equality and "social justice." There are many who think that the French Revolution was the catalyst for all modern forms of Socialism/Communism.
